WHO WE ARE
Save Our Strays was formed in 1968, and incorporated in New York in 1972. We are here 56 years at present. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to save the lives of animals. We are especially concerned with the millions of ill, injured, and abandoned animals now living on the streets of New York City, and other major cities in our country. We have helped many organizations in the United States, which are 501(c)3s. We have also helped organizations that are registered in the United States as 501(c)3, but are located abroad.”
A grassroots organization, Save Our Strays directly helps animals through the support of its membership. Our small staff answers the phones, and handles all other administrative duties. Volunteers transport animals, and maintain colonies of cats in Brooklyn, New York and Florida. We also work with rescue organizations in South Carolina and other areas in the United States. We help documented rescuers as long as funds are available, with food and medical care, locally and around the country.
Many people who pick up strays will hold them, if medical attention is fully or partially funded. Save Our Strays has thus been able to operate for more than five decades without their own animal shelter or medical facility. Yet with the help of a compassionate citizenry, since its inception our organization has helped hundreds of thousands of animals, and will continue to do so, funds permitting.
Donations, and bequests are needed to maintain Save Our Strays. Through these donations, Save Our Strays will be able to continue to help stray animals with food, and medical care. Donations and bequests of any kind, i.e.: monetary or real estate are accepted and welcomed.
Chief Executive Officer: Shirley Lustig, Chairwoman, Board of Directors
Executive Board of Directors: Shirley Lustig, Ron Liburdi, Terry R. Rosenzweig, Felicia Brownstein, and Richard Brownstein
Director of Animal Welfare: Carol N. Leshnow
