My name is Chico Junior, and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico,
Sr. One day, while we were in the garden it was a little Breezy, and I was having fun
chasing the leaves around. I heard Mommy telling Aunt Anna that Chico should be
done with his chores soon, and that he will be joining us in the garden. A little while
later, Daddy did come into the garden, saying hello to everybody. Mommy told him the
Rescuer was here, and left us a delicious lunch. Daddy went over to eat, and drink
some freshwater. He told us that he had some free time because he overheard the
super telling a tenant that the plumber could not make it to work today. Daddy usually
helps out the plumber when he can. Chico said he was going to go on the other side of
the train tracks, and visit his friend Elvis and see how the cats were doing over there.
Tommy was just walking through the gate, and announced that he wanted to go with
Daddy. Chico told Mommy they were going to go the Safeway, climbing up the subway
stairs crossing, over the big avenue going inside and then going down the stairs on the
other side of the Avenue. After Tommy had his lunch, they left. They walked up the
block a little bit, and there was Elvis. He told Daddy that he was going to come look for
him. He had a problem involving the cat “Sugar.” Daddy knew who Sugar was. She
was adopted by the man with the big window. The man also rescued pigeons. Elvis
said that Sugar has been looking somewhat frantic on the window, and he said
something might be wrong. Elvis couldn't climb up there as he was an older cat.
Tommy said he would go up, and talk to her. The window was cracked open a little
from the bottom. Daddy climbed up the stairs close to where Tommy climbed up to the
window, so he could hear the conversation too. Sugar said that her owner wasn't
feeling well, and people came and took him out of the house. She said, “this was
supposed to be my forever home, and I am happy here with the pigeons.” She also
said there's very little food left for her, and the pigeons to eat. Chico told Tommy to tell
Sugar that we will find out what's going on, and be back in a while.
Just then, the Rescuer was parking her car nearby. She saw Chico on the stairs,
and Tommy climbing down from the window and walked over to see what was going on.
Elvis was standing there on the street looking up. The Rescuer followed his eyes, and
saw Sugar sitting on the window. She knew something was wrong by the look on
Chico's face. The Rescuer told Chico that she knew the owner of the building, and
would call to find out what's going on. The Rescuer talked on the phone for a while.
When she hung up, she told Chico, Tommy and Elvis that Sugar's owner was sick, and
went to the hospital and that he might have to be there for some time. The building
owner asked the Rescuer to please take Sugar with her, and let the pigeons go
because they were all healthy enough to fly. The Rescuer went to get a carrier from the
car, and was back in a few minutes. She was told that the door was open. The
Rescuer, and Chico went inside the apartment together. Chico told Sugar everything
was going to be okay, and that the Rescuer was here to take her while her owner was
in the hospital. He also told her that it was okay to let the pigeons fly away. Sugar
shook her head okay, and went over to the Rescuer and went into the carrier. The
Rescuer told Chico that she needed to take Sugar to the veterinarian, and she will take
Tommy and him home first. Chico thanked Elvis, and told him that he was a good guy
and would see him soon. Chico, and Tommy came walking through the garden, and
told mommy and the others what happened with Sugar. I asked daddy if Sugar was
going to come live with us. Daddy said “no, she will live with the Rescuer until her
owner is well enough to come home.” Chico then said it was important that he did visit
Elvis to check on his friends. I am so proud of my daddy, he always knows what to do.
I will be back next month with another story.
