My name is Chico Junior, and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico, Sr.
One beautiful day we were sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine.  Soon after, the Rescuer came to give us lunch.  She told us that she would be away until tomorrow, and that somebody else would come and feed us tonight.  I was thirsty from sitting in the sun, so I went over to drink some fresh water.  The Rescuer saw me walking over to take a drink, and said goodbye Junior have a good day.  I looked up at her, and she smiled at me.  Then I started drinking my water.  Just then, Jeffrey came by the garden looking for Chico.  Mommy told him that Daddy was busy with the elevator repairman.  When daddy came up from the basement, Jeffrey pulled Daddy aside to talk to him.  However, we were able to hear what they were talking about. Jeffrey told Daddy about a dog that was with the homeless people on the boardwalk. They usually hung out under the Pavilion. Jeffrey just happened to be walking by when he saw a dog with them, and knew that something was wrong.  The dog was tied up, and looked very unhappy.  He knew that he should come, and talk to Chico about it.  Daddy was very concerned, and told Mommy that he was going to check on this dog that seems to be in trouble.  Tommy volunteered to go with Daddy, and Jeffrey. Mommy told them to be careful, and then they were on their way.  They walked up the block, across the street and went up the ramp to the boardwalk.  Jeffrey led them to the Pavilion, and there was the dog with the homeless people.  They looked somewhat drunk.  Chico walked over to the dog.  She told Daddy that her name was Cleopatra.  She was given to these people.  She told Daddy, “sometimes they do not have food for me, and treat me mean by tying me up here on the boardwalk.”  Chico told Cleopatra, “we are here to help you.”  Tommy noticed that the Rope was not tied tightly around the pole.  Chico asked Tommy, and Jeffrey to see if they could get it loose.  They worked on the rope for a few minutes, and were able to untie the rope from the pole, and free the dog who was still wearing her leash.  Chico said “quick, we have to leave here.”  Daddy told Tommy to put the leash in his mouth, and start running fast with Jeffrey behind the dog.  They took off like lightning.  The homeless people noticed, and started going after them.  Daddy scattered some of the garbage that was there in front of them, and that slowed them down some.  Then Chico ran after the others yelling out, “be careful crossing the street.”  They waited for Chico on the other side of the street.  Then the four of them went down the block to our building with Chico leading the way.  When they reached the building, Chico said “let's go slowly down the ramp to the basement.”  The basement door was open because the porter had just finished throwing out the garbage.  They walked into the basement, and the porter saw the dog and ran into his room to get some food, and water for Cleopatra.  She drank a ton of water, and then ate her food and then some more water.  The Porter said he would take care of her until he can find the Rescuer. Daddy told Cleopatra to go with this man, and everything will be okay.  The dog started wagging her tail.  Daddy and the others made their way through the basement, and up the ladder to the garden.  Jeffrey thanked Daddy for helping him out with the dog.  Chico commended Jeffrey for caring about the dog, and said “we have to continue looking after all the unfortunate animals.”  Then they had some nourishment, and Jeffrey said goodbye and went home to his family.  The next day, the Rescuer came by the garden with Cleopatra.  Cleopatra was wearing a brand new pink harness, and matching leash.  The Rescuer realized from her description, that this was the dog that was held by the homeless on the boardwalk.  She told us that they had just come back from a visit to the doctor, and that Cleopatra was fine and would be living in the building with her from now on.  The Rescuer also said many thanks to Chico, and all of us for saving Cleopatra.  I was so happy because now I will have another friend.  I will be back next month with another story.
