My name is Chico Junior and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico, Sr.
One day in the Fall season, most of us were in the garden. I was busy playing with the leaves that keep falling from the trees. Daddy came up from the basement, and began telling Mommy that he was thinking about Jeffrey from the park. Daddy said, “he usually comes by once in a while to say hi to all of us. I think I'm going to walk over to the park, and check on him.” Tommy offered to go with him. Chico said goodbye to us, and Tommy and Daddy were or on their way to the park. As soon as they arrived at the park, Tommy noticed Jeffery from a distance. They walked over to see him, and the family. Jeffrey was happy to see them. Jeffrey said, “I wanted to come over and see you Chico, but I hurt my left paw and could not walk over. I need your advice and help.” He told Daddy that there was a female cat who drops by to eat, and would not talk to us. We know that She is afraid, and keeps a distance. This cat is very thin and usually very tired when we see her. Jeffrey kept on with the story. He also said it seems that she comes from a far distance. Jeffrey said, “there she is.” Chico told Tommy, “we should hide so that she does not see us.” She did the usual thing ate, and drank some water and looked around and was shaking a little bit when she noticed Chico, and Tommy peering out from the trees watching her. She left in a hurry, and crossed the big Street on the Avenue. Chico did not cross the big Street because Mommy keeps telling him that he should not because of his poor vision. When Daddy crosses the street, he usually has the train station to walk to, but it's not near them now. So, Chico asked Tommy to follow this Kitty and stay a distance behind and find out her story, and then come back to me and Report. Chico told Tommy that he would be waiting on the corner for him. Tommy returned in about a half hour. He told Chico that this cat has babies, and she has them hidden behind a building in a corner that seemed not to have shelter. They walked back to Jeffrey and told him, “don't worry we will take care of this.” Chico then asked Jeffery about his paw. Jeffrey said, “do not be concerned because it is getting better every day.” So, with that they left and walked back home to the garden. Chico told Mommy, and the others what had happened. Aunt Anna said, “maybe this female cat with the babies is afraid of male cats. Perhaps I should go with you there, and help talk to her.” Mommy thought that this was a very good idea, and left. I was excited to think that the kittens would be coming home to our garden. Chico, Tommy and aunt Anna were on their way. This time Chico said, “I am glad that I can go with you guys because we can take the train station over the big Street.” Tommy led them to the mommy cat, and her babies. Chico told Anna, “we will stay behind while you go talk to her.” So, Aunt Anna walked over to her and said, “please don't be afraid we want to talk to you,” and she said okay. With that, aunt Anna signaled to Chico that he can come over. Chico asked this cat what her story was. She told daddy that her name was Sarah, and that she is very friendly, but lost her forever home because her people parents fell on Hard Times and were evicted, and that's how she lost her home. Sarah was very scared to be outside because she grew up in a house. Chico told her that she does not have to go so far to the park to eat. Also, he told her that it is dangerous for her to cross the big Street. CHICO’S BROOKLYN RESCUE – (CONT.) Daddy showed her how to cross the train station, and go to the other side of the Avenue. They told Sarah that the Garden was just up the street, and that she is welcome to come there to eat, and we will get help from a person we call the Rescuer. She will know what to do. It is too difficult for you to carry the babies to our home. With that they left, and mentioned once again that they would be back with help. When Daddy, aunt Anna and Tommy came back to the garden they told Mommy Sarah’s story. Mommy agreed that the kittens cannot be moved, and that she and those babies were safe for the time being, however, we have to get help from the Rescuer as soon as possible. Chico agreed, and decided that they couldn’t wait for her to come by the Garden. So, Chico said he would go into the building, and up to her apartment. Daddy left, and when a resident went into the building and opened the locked door, he followed them in. Chico took the stairs up to the Rescuers door. He then scratched on the door. The Rescuer heard him, and came over to open her door. As soon as she saw Chico the rescuer knew that something was terribly wrong. She picked up a carrier, and followed him down the stairs to the Garden. Chico told Mommy he would be back, and that he needed to lead The Rescuer to Sarah and the babies. Tommy decided to go with them. It took only 10 minutes for them to reach Sarah. Chico told her not to be afraid, and that the Rescuer is here to help her. Sarah realized that the carrier was for her, and the babies to go in. Because she was not truly afraid of people, just terrified to be outside in the street, she let the Rescuer put her and the babies into the carrier. The Rescuer told us not to worry, and that she would take care of this mommy and her babies, and with that she left. When Chico, and Tommy arrived back at the Garden Chico told the others that Sarah, and the kittens are now safe and with the rescuer. I was happy for them, but also a little disappointed that the babies were not coming to the garden. Chico then turned to us, and said that it is very dangerous for a cat that is friendly to be out in the street because some people cannot be trusted, and it is easy for a cat like that to get hurt. Thank goodness we have the Rescuer, and Save Our Strays to help us in time of need. I will be back next month with another story.
