My name is Chico Junior, and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico, Sr. One Fine Day in our garden a visitor Max, a cat from our neighborhood, walked-in looking for Chico. Mommy told Max that Chico should be here in a while. I knew that Daddy was in a meeting with the super, the landlord and the plumber in the basement. Mommy offered Max some food, and water while he waited. Soon Chico appeared in the garden. Max told Chico that he came by for advice. Miss Ivy, an ew kitty that showed up on the street not long ago, was in trouble. She was huddled up against the wall outside the building around the corner. Someone from the building was feeding her, but otherwise she was on her own. Chico said that he would go with him, and aunt Anna said she would go too. Mommy suggested they take the alleyway through to the next block, and Chico agreed. So Max, Chico and Aunt Anna went to see Miss Ivy. It started to rain when they approached Miss Ivy. Chico suggested that they should go under the overhang out of the rain, so that they could talk. She told them that she was doing okay in the street until recently. She was appealing to the lady that feeds her for help, but nothing happened. Chico explained to her that although the woman meant well, that's probably as much as she could do to help her, but not to worry because we are here now. Aunt Anna asked the kitty to follow them. She was hesitant at first, but started walking with them. Max said he had to go home, and that he could see Miss Ivy was in good hands. When they returned to the garden, mommy showed Miss Ivy the way down to the basement, but she would not go. Then mommy showed her to the food, but she would not eat. Chico said that he was going to go look for the rescuer. When he came out of the garden, he saw her coming up the block. He went to her, and she followed him back to he garden. She said, "what do we have here?" The rescuer unlocked the gate, and came into the garden and the kitty backed up some. However, Miss Ivy let the rescuer pet her. The rescuer left, and returned a short time later with a carrier. Chico told Miss Ivy to please trust us. He told Miss Ivy, "you are not feeling well, and should leave the street." The kitty let the rescuer put her in the carrier and they left. Some Horus later, the rescuer came by the garden with fresh food, and told us that the kitty was very ill and that she would have to stay at the veterinarian. The rescuer told us that Miss Ivy would not be coming back to the street and that when she is well, Save Our Strays is going to help find her a forever home. The rescuer thanked us and left. Chico told us that we are so fortunate to have Save Our Strays looking after us. They help rescuers feed their colonies of kitties, and provide medical help for us and all the other animals in the street. We all shook our heads with understanding. I will be back next month with another story.
