My name is Chico Junior and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico, Sr.
On a rainy day in the garden, most of us came up from the basement to have lunch. Aunt Anna said that the Rescuer had been here, and left us an assortment of food. I was happy because the food smelled so good. Chico said to me, “Junior, Save Our Strays never forgets us.” Just then, Tommy came into the garden. He told us that he was in the backyard, and saw a kitten sleeping under an umbrella. He didn't know what he should do, so he came back to talk about it with Chico. Daddy said, “we need to go and find out what is going on with this Kitty.” He asked Mommy to come with them. Mommy told me to mind Aunt Anna, and said, “we'll be back as soon as we can.” So off they went Chico, Tommy and Mommy. When they approached the kitty, they noticed that she was still sleeping. Mommy gently woke her up. The kitten started crying, and told them that her mommy put her there, and said she would be back. Chico was worried something might have happened to the Kitty's mother. Mommy said that she would take the kitten back to the garden. Daddy said, “we will go with you, and then we will leave and go find her mommy.” So, Mommy picked up the kitten, and carried her gently back to the garden. When they returned, I watched while Mommy brought her over to the food. The kitten was old enough to eat by herself, and was very hungry. Satisfied that things were okay with the kitty, Tommy and daddy left in pursuit of the mommy. They covered all the outside areas of the backyard, and did not see any trace of the mommy. Chico said she could be locked in one of the basements. Tommy asked Daddy if all the basements were locked. Chico said, “they usually are, but we will find a way in.” They sneaked their way into basements, and so far there was no sign of her. Chico said there was one left. It was difficult to get in, but they found some loose bricks and pushed them aside. When they looked into the basement, they saw that the ground was a long way down. Chico knew that he could not make the jump, so Tommy went down the basement alone. He searched it throughout, and was losing hope until he heard some scratching noises. It seemed that the mommy cat was locked in one of the monitor rooms. Tommy called out to her, but there was no answer. Tommy went back to Chico, who was peering down at him in the basement. Chico heard what was going on, and told Tommy to stay with her, and he would go to get help. Daddy came back to our building, and went up to the Rescuer’s apartment. Her neighbor saw Chico sitting there, and knocked on the door. The Rescuer came to the door, and saw Chico sitting outside, and knew immediately that something was wrong. She took a carrier, and followed Chico. Daddy brought her into the backyard to the missing bricks, and when she looked in she saw Tommy down in the basement. She placed the bricks back in the wall, and she and Chico went out into the street. The super of that building was standing outside. The Rescuer told him that she needed to go down to the basement. Chico went with them. Once in the basement, Tommy showed them the room where the kitty was locked in. The man unlocked the door, and the cat came out. Chico spoke to her, and she said she is the mommy of that kitten. She was very friendly, and allowed the Rescuer to put her in the carrier. We left, and went back to the garden. When they arrived, the Rescuer noticed the kitten, and put two and two together. She picked up the kitten, and put her in the carrier with her mommy. Mommy, and baby were crying happy tears to see one another. The Rescuer said not to worry, that Save Our strays will take great care of them, and left. We were all so happy too. I will be back next month with another story.
