CHICO’S BROOKLYN RESCUE
My name is Chico Junior, and I have a story to tell you about my daddy Chico, Sr.  One chilly day in the garden we we're all huddled together trying to keep warm, when I overheard some kids talking about what a great time they were going to have playing in the snow.  This sounded so exciting to me.  I was wondering if I would be able to play with them.   Just then, the Rescuer came to the garden to feed us lunch.  She talked about a snowstorm coming, and said that she would be busy preparing for the storm, and would check on us later.  Mommy was glad when she saw Daddy coming up from the basement.  She told Chico what the Rescuer said.  Chico said that he knew all about the storm, and was busy with the super and the porter getting the building ready.  Chico said that we were all to stay close, and that everything would be fine, because we are fortunate enough to be able to go down to the basement.  I asked Daddy if I could play in the snow.  He said yes Junior, when it is safe, I will let you play in the snow.

The wind started picking up, and Daddy said it was time for us to go down the ladder to the basement.  As we were about to go down, Joel came walking into the garden.  He said there was a cat crouched in between the buildings around the corner. She would not be safe there from the storm.  Daddy told Mommy that he had to go get this poor cat, and bring her back here with us.  This is what we do, help others in need. Tommy volunteered to go. Mommy told Daddy to be careful, and with that Tommy, Chico and Joel started up the block.  The snow started coming down heavier.  By the time they reached the kitty, she was whimpering and covered in snow.  Daddy went over to her, and said we are here to help you.  She looked up, and said my name is Maggie.

I am lost, and cannot find my home.  Daddy said, “don’t worry, you have a collar on with a tag.  Please come with us, and you will be warm and safe.”  By this time, the wind was whipping up and the snow was blowing in their faces.  Chico thanked Joel, and told him to get home safe.  It was a tough fight getting down the block, but Daddy, Maggie and Tommy pushed on.  They made it to the window just in time as it was filling up with snow.  They went through the window, and down the ladder to be greeted by Mommy, Aunt Anna and the rest.  Mommy showed them to the food, and water that the Rescuer left for us.  We all ate wholeheartedly, then we all laid down and went to sleep with me cuddling up to Mommy.  Hours past, and then we were awakened by the elevator door opening, and the rescuer walking out.  She was smiling when she saw us all safe, and resting comfortably.  The rescuer noticed Maggie, and bent down to her. Realizing that Maggie was friendly, she started petting her.  Chico told Maggie not to worry this, and that this lady would help her find her home.  The rescuer looked at Maggie's collar, and picked her up.  We said goodbye to Maggie, and the rescuer said, “thank you,” looking at Daddy and then left with Maggie disappearing into the elevator. Just then we heard shoveling up in the garden.  The porter was making a path for us to walk around.

Daddy led us up the ladder into the garden.  Everything looked beautiful with the sun shining down on the snow.  The kids were already out, and looking in the garden to play with me.  Daddy, and Mommy nodded okay and sent Aunt Anna out to watch me.  I was so happy.  I will be back next month with another story.
