Meet Allie!

Finally, Allie has been adopted after holding onto her for a year.  She was found in the woods wandering around on her own.  A homeless man told me that the cat was friendly, and asked if I could please take her.  He said that he couldn’t keep her because every time he would feed the cat, the raccoons would come and destroy his camp.  I said okay, being that I was feeding a few cats nearby that were wild and feral. I was worried that she would not be friendly.  To my surprise, she was 110% friendly and I couldn’t figure out how she ended up out there all by herself.  No microchip, and she was not spayed.  Thanks to Save Our Strays, we got her spayed and all her shots were updated, and finally one year later, I found a beautiful home for her with an old
boss of mine.  Allie is a Tortoiseshell.  A lot of people don’t really like the looks of that type of coloring.  So, all they could see was her outer looks, and didn’t consider her personality.  Looks are deceiving.  Not only was Allie friendly, but she had an exceptional personality to where she is almost human, if that’s even possible.  My old boss told me she was looking for a female cat 3 to 4 years old, and I found the perfect match for her.  Thanks to Save Our Strays for helping me get her medical needs under control.  She will be going to her new home this week.  My old boss will be changing her name to Maxie.  When you change the cats name,  always start with the new name and end up with the old name.  So, I told her she needs to call the cat Maxie Allie for a couple of weeks.  Otherwise, if you change the name of a cat or a dog for that matter, they’re not going to respond to you.  You have to do it gradually and slowly.  Just a little tip, if you find yourself wanting to change an animal’s name be patient because they are so used to their old name, and it’s as new to them as it would be to you, if you had changed your name.  Good luck Maxie Allie!!!!

Meet Twinkie!

Twinkie was found behind a Walmart Plaza, running around a dumpster area limping.  It took me four days to trap her, and finally when I got her, Save Our Strays helped me with the situation.  We got her to the doctor, and she ended up having a broken pelvis and a shattered leg, as you can see in the picture.  At just five weeks old, I could tell she was in a lot of pain and discomfort.  She was way too young to do surgery.  The doctor said it was a wait and see.  Fast forward.  She is now eight weeks old, and thriving.  Her bones have healed, and miraculously she has only a tiny limp, but nothing to be concerned about.  With the help of Save Our Strays, she’ll probably need one more visit to the vet and have clearance before she can go up for adoption. Thank you so much to Save Our Strays for helping this baby.  Twinkie is a sweet little
girl that has a bright future ahead of her.  She definitely would have had a death sentence, if I had not seen her when I did.  With the help of Save Our Strays, and lots of love, she is going to make it!

Meet Glory!
As we approach the Fourth of July, Glory has a newfound freedom.  He was found behind an abandoned building badly injured, and in the worst shape I’ve ever seen a cat.  He had the will to live, and the personality of an angel.  With the help of Save Our Strays, we were able to get the medical attention that this badly injured cat needed.  As you can see, the progression of the pictures with his before, and after transformation, was amazing.  With time, and veterinary help and the help of Save Our Strays, he was able to be healed and put up for adoption.  Glory was facing certain death, but now he has a second chance at life.  So, I say glory, glory hallelujah!!!  This cat has been rescued.

Meet Tigger!

Isn’t he beautiful?  He was found wandering around in a Home Depot parking lot over a year ago.  He’s been with me all this time because he had a few behavior problems, that needed to be corrected.  With the help of Save Our Strays, he is finally ready for adoption.  He was neutered, and all his shots are done and he is ready to go. It just takes time, patience and love to correct behaviors that are not acceptable to be a indoor domestic cat.  Just like a small child, you take the time to correct them when they are behaving badly.  Same thing for an animal.  You must take the time to correct their behaviors, if it’s not a good behavior.  Otherwise, what’s the point of adopting a forever pet.  No person is perfect just like no Pet is perfect.  We all have our flaws, but that doesn’t mean that you get dumped at a Home Depot parking lot.  If you don’t want to take the time to work with your pet then please surrender them to a shelter.  Most shelters work by appointments, and you must be patient and wait your turn to drop off and surrender your pet that you thought you were going to have forever.  Please reconsider in surrendering your pet, and take the time to work with them.  Look how beautiful Tigger is.  I can’t imagine just leaving him in a parking lot.
He has been rescued, and he will have a second chance at having a responsible owner.  Thank you to Save Our Strays for giving me the opportunity to continue my mission, and rescue these beautiful animals one at a time.

Meet Twinkie!

Twinkie was found roaming around a park.  She was super friendly, so we were able to pick her up and put her in a cage.  We took her home, and scanned her for a microchip and she did not have one.  Thanks to Save Our Strays, we were able to make an appointment to get her spayed and update her shots.  As you can see, she is an orange cat, and I would say 90% of the time orange cats are usually male, but Twinkie was definitely a girl.  We took her in to one of our veterinarians to be spayed, and the doctor said she had already been spayed.  It was terrible that she had to go through surgery to find this out.  This is what happens when people don’t microchip their cats.  It’s very important to have your pet microchipped nowadays.  It gives information to everyone just in case the cat is lost.  So, basically, whoever owned this cat before never got it back because we were not able to find the owner.  However, the good news is that Twinkie was adopted by a new family that loves her very much.  As you can see by the picture, she is healthy and happy and relaxing on the couch.  We made sure that we put a microchip on Twinkie.  That way, the same scenario doesn’t happen again.  Thanks to Save Our Strays for all their continued help.

Meet Ashley!  She was found pregnant, behind a Home Depot Plaza where there was a small colony of cats.  It was very obvious to me, that someone had dropped her off because they just did not know how to deal with or want to deal with a pregnant cat.  Very sad.  It took a while to trap her because she was not cooperating.  Once I trapped her, I put her in a large dog crate where she had her six kittens.  I watched in agony as one by one passed away because of malnutrition.  The babies were not healthy because the mother was not eating healthy.  It was heart wrenching to watch. Finally, they were all gone and now I had to concentrate on getting Ashley back on track.  Thanks to Save Our Strays, Ashley was spayed  and all her shots were done, but that wasn’t enough she had to recover.  With good food, and love and a warm place to
sleep, she slowly became this beautiful, vibrant cat.  After analyzing her, I realized that she was a Russian Blue.  She had a silver coat, and bright green eyes and her demeanor was exactly like a Russian Blue should be – a very calm and loving cat.  She was on her way to finding a home, and sure enough, she got a loving home and now she’s off the streets.  Thanks to the help of Save Our Strays, Ashley can live a beautiful life with her new family.

Meet Pepe!  He was found behind an abandoned house, after the owner of the house was put in a nursing home.  This is what happens when people get up in age, and can’t take care of their animals.  They are left behind with no one to take care of them. This woman was feeding three adult cats that were multiplying, and they were not spayed or neutered.  With spring around the corner, it’s going to be kitten season again. Thanks to Save Our Strays, Pepe and his two sisters were rescued.  They were spayed, and neutered and had all their shots done and were put up for adoption.  The two sisters got adopted, and now Pepe is waiting for his turn.  He’s a very handsome boy.  When you see an abandoned house, more than likely there are cats in the backyard or even living in the house.  Reach out to neighbors or the authorities, to make sure there’s no starving animals in or around the house.  Everyone needs to pitch in, and help when they can.  With spring around the corner, there will be lots of kittens born outside in the bushes, backyards, abandoned houses, anywhere they can find peace away from people.  If you see kittens, call your local shelter to see if they have any volunteers that could help, and if not, you can become a volunteer on your own and help.  We all need to do our part and help those that can’t help themselves.  Enjoy!

Love is in the air!  It doesn’t have to be a boy, and girl for Valentine’s Day! Or even a romance thing.  These are two brothers, and they love each other so much!! Thanks to Save Our Strays, they were neutered and all their shots were done, and they are ready for adoption.  Unfortunately, they got adopted separately.  It may sound cruel to separate them, but now their valentines are there owners, who will take care of them and love them and feed them till the end of their time.  A cat is a great gift for someone that is wanting a cat.  They will give you unconditional love, and you will have someone to snuggle with at night.  Whether you have a spouse or not, a cat is great to snuggle with.  So, bring some love into your home this Valentine’s Day, and adopt a cat!  Enjoy!

It’s time to put the ugly Christmas sweater away, and get ready for the New
Year!  Maybe you want to start the New Year off adopting a cute kitten or even a
puppy!  Whichever you decide, remember that they are not a Christmas present or
New Year’s present, but they are part of the family and should stay with their famil
till the very end.  Thanks to Save Our Strays, there are many animals that have been rescued from the streets and are waiting for adoption.  It’s best to buy all your supplies like your little cat bed, food, toys, etc. before you go adopting.  It’s like getting ready for a baby to be born.  You get the baby’s room ready, and then you bring your baby home.  It’s the same for adopting an animal.  You get ready for it, and then you go and pick one out or for that matter let them pick you!!  Whichever way, you need to be prepared.  It will make a smooth transition for you, and your new pet.  The little baby
kitten in the picture was adopted as a second pet, and was taken to her new home and matched up with a male cat that looked just like her.  So, now they have each other to keep company.  Sometimes you not only need one pet.  You need two pets because if you work a long day at work, and your pet is home alone, sometimes it’s nice to adopt a companion for your pet.  Something to think about!

Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year from the Florida Rescue Ranger and Save Our Strays!

Baby, it’s cold outside!

It’s Snowy!!  She is snuggled up under her blanket.  Snowy was rescued from behind an apartment building, where there was a colony of six white cats.  With the help of Save Our Strays, one by one the cats have been rescued.  Snowy was spayed, and all her shots were done, and she was put up for adoption and found a beautiful home.  Now, she doesn’t have to be cold outside in the winter, and she could be snuggled up under her blanket with her new family.  This winter please don’t leave your pets outside when it’s cold.  They may be wearing a fur coat, but they still get cold like people do.  They prefer to be indoors away from the harsh elements of the weather.  Let’s be kind to our furry friends, and to one another.  Have a great holiday season, and remember to donate to the shelters this holiday season.  The animals really need your help.  That’s the only way to get them Rescued.  Thanks to Save Our Strays, and your donations, we can continue to save lives all year long with your help!
