March 2020 Opening Story

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS - 3/8/2O
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Dear Friends and Members,

March is here, and to me it means that the warmer weather is only a month away. It has. been cold, and the animals feel it. The lucky ones find food, and shelter, and make it through the winter. We watch our colonies and so far we have not lost anyone.

We have been able to place some friendly cats from our colonies in Florida. They now have forever homes. We have two feral cats from one of our Brooklyn colonies, that we are working on finding them a forever sanctuary. The were very sick, and were at the veterinarian for a long period of time, and could not be put back into their colony. So, next month I will tell you if we are successful in placing these two.

We are working very hard to help the strays. Funds are very slow coming in. We are going to send out a Spring/Summer Fundraising Letter to everyone, around May or June, to try to generate some much needed funds.

Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day, and enjoy the longer days, with Daylight Savings Time kicking in.

Be kind to all animals.

March 2020 Closing Thoughts

I like to think that we will have wonderful weather starting April 1st. It happens, but not always, The first hint of better weather is Daylight Savings Time, which starts March 8th. It is also almost the time when new kittens are born on the street. Please be aware of the strays in your neighborhood, and in your travels. Shelters usually take kittens, and puppies that are easy to place.

Please help a feeder/rescuer in your neighborhood to help the strays. There aren't many rescuers and feeders left. We must find new ones.

Please don't look the other way, and pass a stray. Reach out and help, even if it is a can of food and some water.

This is the time of year that we all become Irish for St. Patrick's Day. Have a designated driver. Be safe, and be careful and have a wonderful, happy and safe day.

Please pass our newsletter around. We need more Adam, Eve, and Sponsor-A-Stray members.

Hi,

Her we are in the month of March, and I would like take this opportunity to wish all of our friends and members a HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! It has been very cold, and we have had quite a bit of rain this year, and this is hard for the strays as food gets wet and spoiled. Hopefully, Spring will arrive soon, bringing with it some nice warm weather. This will be a welcome break for the strays, and for all of us. Especially for people who live down south, who have really been having a hard time with all the flooding that resulted from heavy rains. Our hearts and our prayers go out to them, their pets and livestock and we hope that they do the right thing by protecting them from the floods.

I hope that everyone has been diligent about making sure to keep their pets warm before taking them out in the cold weather. We all love our pets, and therefore, it is just as important to protect them from the elements as it is to protect ourselves and our children.

On another note, once again I would like to reiterate that if you are thinking about having a pet, please consider adopting one rather than buying it from a pet store. Please be aware that many of the animals that are sold in pet stores may be products of Puppy Mills. There are shelters out there that have any wonderful animals for adoption. If you are interested in adopting, but need shelter information, please feel free to contact me at the Save Our Strays number, 718-332-3956, Monday to Friday 11:30 am to 1 pm, and I will be happy to help you.

It is a wonderful thing to want to give a deserving animal a loving, and good home, but please be sure that you really want to have a pet BEFORE adopting. I say this because I have encountered too many incidences where people adopt an animals from a shelter and/or rescue group, and then maybe a few months later, the animal is found out in the street because they are no longer wanted, for one reason or another. This is a heartbreaking situation fro the animal, and the poor creature is then forced to fend for itself on the street. It's a tough and frightening life out there for the strays especially when that stray is an animal that was used to being cared for, and thought his life in the street was over. It is just as bad as putting a 2 or 3 year old child out in the street to fend for itself. Please don't let it happen.

Also, a reminder - please NEVER leave your pet tied up outside of a store when you go shopping. I still see people doing this, and it is dangerous because the animal can be stolen in an instant, and sick people exploit them in vile ways. If you know that you are going to a store or place that will not allow the animal inside, then consider leaving the pet home. It is your child, treat it like the family member that it is.

Till Next Time.
