BE KIND TO ANIMALS WEEK - 5/3/19 TO 5/9/19
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
MEMORIAL DAY
Dear Friends and Members:

This year is so very different form last year, in so many ways. This year there is a pandemic, that is going around the world. We have lost 108,333 lives around the world, as of April 11, 2020. We can only hope that a vaccine will soon be found.

We have lost many pets also. People have panicked here and around the world, and have taken their pets to shelters or thrown them out in the street. In China, if a pet got loose, the police would beat the animal to death, and if they were lucky, they were shot. This I saw on Facebook.

One good thing that has come out of China, is that the city of Shenzhen has offered to become the first city in China that bans cat and dog meat. I hope that this is true, and I hope that it is enforced.

On December 20, 2018, the United States banned eating dog and cat meat in the U.S in restaurants. It is both sad, and good. Sad that it took so long, and good that it is a law. Now I hope that it is enforced. Though private people can still do this to their animals.

Please adopt from a shelter. The shelters are overcrowded.

Please continue, if you can, to support our Adam, Eve and Sponsor-A-Stray programs. We need you to help us help the strays.

P.S. - Our mail originates in NYC and is forwarded to me once a week, which is out of New York. Since the pandemic has made so many people sick, the Post Office is short of staff, and I do not receive the mail in a timely manner. So if I don't respond to a question, or deposit your much needed donation in a timely manner, please be patient. I do respond to emails ([email protected]) in a timely manner. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi!

It’s the beautiful month of May.  This is the month when the beauty of nature unfolds, as all the trees and flowers of spring begin to bloom.  This time of year, we also celebrate Mother’s Day to honor all the two-legged, and four-legged mothers of the world.  So, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the mothers out there a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.

We also celebrate Memorial Day this month, a time to honor all of the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces, both here and abroad.  To them we say, “we appreciate you, and thank you for all that you do for us.”  Please remember to keep them, and their families in your prayers.  We also remember all the brave service members, who gave their lives for our country.

Now that spring is here, and the warmer weather is showing its face, please be sure to protect your pets from fleas, and ticks.  We have had more than our share of rain this year, and I am sure that there will be plenty of these little critters, and we don’t want our pets to be uncomfortable.

Also, when walking your pet, please remember to keep them away from the fertilizers, and other white powders that homeowners use on lawns this time of year, as these things can be very dangerous to your animal.  It is normal for an animal to be curious and want to smell around when we are walking them, but they don’t always understand the danger – especially young dogs – so it is up to us, as their guardians, to protect them.

Please try to remember to carry a can of pet food, and some bottled water with you, and if you see a stray that needs help, offer it to them – please don’t pass them by.  If you can pick them up, and bring them to a no-kill shelter, that would be perfect.

I know that we all love to grow things, especially flowers this time of year, but when you have pets, please be careful what type of plants that you buy as there are many that can be toxic to animals.  If you wish to find out which plants are safe for pets, and which are not, you can contact the ASPCA to get a book from them, which contains
a list of safe plants, as well as a list of those that are dangerous.  You will find it very helpful, and informative.

We pray for all the people, that we have lost to this pandemic.  Our thoughts, and prayers go out to their families.

Have a wonderful spring, and G-d Bless you all.

Till next time.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to one, and all – mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters.  Enjoy your day.

To all stray mothers, our love and prayers go out to you, that you find a forever home.  You are so very brave.  You have your kittens, and puppies in back alleys, parks, even graveyards – hopefully, a safe place.  I am sure that you hope for kind people to rescue you, and your babies.  This does happen, but not enough.

Please be aware of the strays in your neighborhood.  It is still puppy, and kitten “season.”  Don’t pass an animal in need by.  Think of your children, then give the stray the same consideration.  I know you will.

Please let us know when you are home from being a “snowbird,” and in the Fall, when you start your snowbird season.  We spend money, that can buy food or medical care for animals in need, on postage and newsletters that are returned to us.  Every little bit helps.

Happy Memorial Day – let’s remember the men, and women who have given their lives to make us safe.
