Dear Friends, and Members:
Summer is over, September is here, life flies by. We have had many rescues over the summer, thanks to the many rescuers that we work with. The colonies are being cared for, and many have had medical treatment. Eye problems seem to be the biggest, but we took care of them, and all is well. Please read our stories from our New York rescuers. Robbin highlights new rescues each month. We also have stories of our Florida rescues. We help strays wherever we can. We also work with a rescue group in South Carolina, with medical help. Snowbirds, please let us know that you are back. The Post Office is having their problems. So it takes a month for mail to go to your vacation home, and back to us, to resend to your winter home. We are starting the Holiday season. Before you turn around, it will be Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Please remember to shop on Amazon, using Save Our Strays Smile account. We get a percentage of your purchase, and it doesn’t cost you anymore. You will be helping the strays. Please do not pass up an animal in distress. Try to help or call a shelter. Please don’t just do nothing. This poor stray needs your help – it cannot speak for itself. Please take care, especially, if you did not get a vaccine. There are new strains out there, and COVID-19 is still active. Be well, and remember - You are the guardians of the strays.

Hi.
It’s the month of September, and I hope that you all had a wonderful summer. This time of year also marks the beginning of the new school season, and here in New York the schools will hopefully, be re-opening again this month. Please continue to keep your children safe by making sure that they wear masks. This month also marks the beginning of the fall season, with all the beautiful colors of autumn. However, please remember that this also means that winter, and the cold weather, is not far behind, which means more hardships for the strays. So please remember that now is the time to start to prepare our shelters for the strays, and stock them with plenty of food and water. As we always say, we are the guardians of the strays and it is up to us to look after them. For all pet owners, a reminder that even though the summer months are now behind us, it is still important to protect your pets from fleas, and ticks. Please be sure to protect your pets all year round. This is most important in order for them to have a happy, healthy life. If you are not sure which is the best brand of flea, and tick protection to use please ask your veterinarian which one is best for your pet. I know that this has been said before in past newsletters, but I feel that it is important enough to repeat again. Especially, with the current health crisis that is going on in our country, and the world. None of us likes to think about the possibility of our pets outliving us, but the fact is that it can happen and it is very important to make arrangements so that they will be well taken care of. If you are not sure how to do this, look on the internet, and you will find that animal organizations such as Humane Society of the United States, and ASPCA list options for doing this on their websites or you can just go into google, and type “Estate Planning for Pets into the Search Bar. You will then see a list of all of your options. Please remember that if you see an animal that needs help, don’t pass it by, try to do whatever you can to help. Also, a reminder that the fall holidays will soon be upon us so let’s try to keep a look out for the strays, and our pets to protect them from pranksters that could cause them harm. That’s all for now, but I’ll be back next month. Take care, and stay safe. Wear a mask – social distance. It’s patriotic. School will be starting again, mostly in the classroom. Hopefully, most everyone will have a vaccine. Very young students cannot have it yet. So, the adults have to be careful not to give COVID to the children, as they will take it home with them and pass it on to others. This C-19 keeps giving, and giving and it’s not what we want.
It will take time for everyone to acclimate back to the classroom. It is a start. I hope this year will be a better one for all. Remember, we need more Adam, and Eve members. Happy Holiday to all our Jewish friends, and to anyone else that has a holiday this month. Please Remember Our Troops “We salute you for all you have done. Your courage has kept us safe. Your sacrifice has kept us free. All of America owes you more than we can repay. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
