We need more Adam, Eve and Sponsor-A-Stray members. An extra donation, when you can, is appreciated. We watch our pennies, and spend with thought. Incoming funds are light. Please pass our newsletter around where you can – bulletin boards, at work or church, friends, family etc.
We wish you, and your family a very Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving. Enjoy family, and friends. Life is short, even if you live to 100. Let’s all leave a good mark on this earth as we pass through. Remember our veterans on Veteran’s Day, and all year long. They protect us from the world that may want to hurt us. We have had so many shootings this year, and so many have needlessly died. The world has changed, and not for the better. We have to work to bring about a better world for man, and animals. All life is important. As we all get older, we learn to appreciate life. Let’s work together while we still can. Things have to change. Help an animal one by one – do not look away. It is a child, like our children. It thinks, feels pain, cries and feels what we feel. It walks the streets alone, hungry and frightened. If you believe in reincarnation, this could be you next time. Save Our Strays maintains a hotline (718-332-3956) Monday – Friday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, and an answering machine for all other times to take messages – all messages are returned. This is to address our member’s concerns, and needs and for animal emergencies. We invite like-minded individuals to join with us to become members, to help us in helping the animals. Individuals may even wish to include us in a charitable donation in their wills. Please help us spread the word about Save Our Strays, and the things that we do. As we have said before, if you have a bulletin board in your place of worship or business, please let people know what we do, we need funds to continue. Please Remember Our Troops “We salute you for all you have done. Your courage has kept us safe. Your sacrifice has kept us free. All of America owes you more than we can repay. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are behind you all the way – From the battlefield. . .to recovery!” To help our supporters, who shop on Amazon, to support Save Our Strays through the Amazon Smile program, please go to Google and type in AmazonSmile.com. Hi.
It is the month of November again, and we are in the midst of the fall season. It is hard to believe that the year is almost over. This month we also celebrate Thanksgiving – a time for families to be together, and to be thankful for all the blessings that G-d has given us in our lives, especially our families, friends and our wonderful pets. Unfortunately, this Thanksgiving may be on Zoom for a great many people. We have to be careful, so that we are here for next year, and a real Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends. Let us also not forget that this has been a particularly difficult year, what with the pandemic and all, and we should give thanks for those of us, and our families and pets, who have come through this unscathed, as well. Also, please remember to include our troops, and their families in your prayers this Thanksgiving. A reminder that Daylight Savings Time ends on November 1st, so don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour the night before. Before long the cold weather will be upon us, and we do not know what kind of a winter we may be facing this year, so please be sure that your shelters are in place for the strays. Please be sure to put out food (preferably dry, as moist food tends to freeze in the cold weather), and water for them as well. The more food they eat, the thicker their fur will be – this is especially true of cats. This will give them some protection, at least, from the weather. On another note, please remember to have dog sweaters, and coats on hand to keep your pets warm when walking them in the cold weather. An animal’s fur is not enough to keep them warm in the cold weather. Believe it or not, they can, and do catch cold the same as we do. Also, and I know that I have said this before, but I feel that it is important enough to repeat, when walking your dogs during the cold months, please watch out for the rock salt that homeowners put down on the sidewalk to melt the snow, and ice. Try to make sure that your pet does not walk on it as it can cause an irritation on their paws that can be uncomfortable, and difficult to get rid of. We here at Save Our Strays wish all of our friends, members and their families a HAPPY, HEALTHY THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. Till next time. ELECTION DAY
VETERAN’S DAY HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS 11/1/20 Dear Friends and Members: How are you? I hope that you are all well. Save Our Strays would like to wish you, and your family, friends and pets a wonderful, Happy and Healthy Holiday season, and a wonderful New Year. As I have said, since it is November, and with Thanksgiving the Holiday season starts, there are many things to be thankful for. We are still here reading this newsletter, and hopefully we will soon have a good vaccine and we can start to get back to some sense of normalcy. We have to remember all the empty seats at our table, and may their memories be a blessing. Please wear masks, and pray for a better 2021. It is the season to open our hearts to those less fortunate than we are. We must help the homeless, who go out of their way to adopt stray animals, and give them love and caring. For anyone, animals complete a family. Please don’t pass them by. Show them kindness if you can, i.e.: coins, food or clothing. It will make you feel so very good. This is a newsletter from an animal organization, so let me plead for the animals. Stop cruelty when you see it. Elect people who are animal friendly. We have to change the laws, and we can only do that through legislation. There is injustice to man, and animal and it is time that we change the laws for the good of our country. We have to all think about becoming a world without eating animals. In many parts of the world, dogs and cats – man’s best friend – are eaten as a delicacy. Yes, we will all sit down to dinner for the holidays, but please remember the life of the animal that you are eating, and think about how good vegetables, fruits, nuts and salads are. I am not perfect or telling you what to do. I am only saying that all life matters, and at least we have to start to think about this. At the very least, as long as we still eat animals, we have to fight for humane slaughter, if there is such a thing, and have it regulated. There are many vegetarian foods that are like meat, and are healthier for you. We hope to regulate how farm animals are treated. They are intelligent, thinking and feeling creatures. They have the same feelings that we do. They feel pain, fear, happiness and sorrow when their “children” are taken away from them to be killed, or whatever horror is in their future. They cry real tears. The lovely wool sweater that you wear all winter comes from the pain, and suffering of sheep that are sheared by uncaring people, who leave them torn, bleeding and in pain to heal for another year to produce wool. (See the internet, and Facebook – they have videos.) We have to band together to change what we can. Please write to your legislators. We must fight for humane care of animals in the “harvesting” of what we receive from these poor creatures. Animals are not for our use. We don’t need horses to pull carriages for our pleasure. It may be a pleasant experience, and romantic at times for you, but not for the horse. We here at Save Our Strays are only saying that we are hoping that the world will change, but until it does, let’s at the very least, fight for humane care and laws, that give protection to all animals. Remember the old saying, “do unto others as we want others to do unto us.” We have a holiday of St. Francis of Assisi, where we all have our animals blessed. We must now include animals that are used for food against their will – they matter also. The bottom line is, let’s love each other and take care of each other, our families, our friends, our neighbors, our pets and all the animals of the world. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! |
