Hello again,
It is the month of January, and I would like to start off this month by wishing all of our friends, and members a Happy and Healthy New Year. Winter is now in full swing, and I hope that everyone has their shelters up and working for the strays, to keep them protected from the elements. Please remember to stock them with dry food and water. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. Mama - After 2 years, and many kittens, thanks to my friend Chris, I got Mama. Chris had a friend of hers build a certain kind of drop trap, that looked different form the usual trap. With her help, we were able to set the trap, hide and we got Mama. We immediately brought her to the veterinarian, and had her check out, spayed, deflated, given shots, tested etc. The veterinarian boarded her until she was healed, and then I Brough her back to her feeding spot, the only spot she knows. We got her a house for shelter, with straw insulation, and mama is fine, comfortable, and will have no more babies. Save Our Strays paid all the veterinary bills. PS - Now I have another Mama to get, in a different one of my spots. I am having a bad time with her. I will keep you posted. Leon - I can't run like I use to, but I was able to get a lasso around a medium-sized Pitbull Mix dog that I found. It took about a half an hour. Thank G-d the dog did not run, he just listened to me talking softly to him. As I was talking to him, I kept moving the food closer, and I was also moving closer to him until I got close enough to put the lasso around his neck. I had seen Leon walking alone looking sad and lonely, and I just stopped my car to see what I could do to help. I got a plate of food and just started talking to Leon. Eventually, he stopped and that is when I was able to work with him. Th next step was to pull him into my car, which I did, and a stranger who happened to be passing by, shut the car door for me. I then called my friend Greg, told him about Leon and he told me to bring him over. Leon was fearful but sweet, so Greg separated him from the other animals because he already has a dog. Greg had an extra bedroom. After having Leon checked out, Greg will keep him because he is so sweet. Pudgee - I saw a pretty, neglected kitten about 3 months old, all alone on a commercial street, by a construction area. He was so cute, and I knew that I had to get him. I checked around for other felines and did not see anything. I then set a trap and hid. The kitten sniffed around and finally went into the trap. I then brought Pudgee over to my friend, who has been very successful in finding homes for kittens. We had the kitten deflated and put him in a cage. My friend is ver good with socializing kittens. She, and her daughter made Pudgee realize that we were going to help him. Soon after, my friend called me, and told me that she found a family who agreed to take Pudgee after she sent them a picture, and that the kitten really had a nice personality. Pudgee had obviously been thrown out by his previous owner. The people who wanted Pudgee came from Staten Island to get him, and took him to a veterinarian to be tested. These were good people. Pudgee tested negative for everything, and now has a forever home.
