Hello Again,
Happy Valentine's Day to all of our readers. Remember that this is the month of Love, so let's all make it a priority to be kind to each other, and those less fortunate than we are. On another note, I would like to tell you about some rescues that I have been involved in lately. Peanuts - One thing is for sure, small dogs are never a problem when it comes to finding someone to take them. Peanuts was walking alone on Surf Avenue in Coney Island looking bewildered. It took me a few minutes to coax him, but after giving him food, and sitting on the ground, I was able to put a leash around him, and make him realize by talking to him softly, that I was going to help him. I got Peanuts into my car. He was black, and brown and a little bigger than a Chihuahua mix, but cute and pathetic. I called my friend Craig and he told me to Brin the dog over. He will de-flea him and foster him. Thank G-d for my friend Craig, who always helps with dogs. peanuts is getting along with the other animals who are passive and is being fostered in Staten Island. He is safe. Lovey - While going to my regular feeding route one morning, I noticed a new long-haired brown Tiger cat with watery eyes, and looking like he had some sort of Upper Respiratory problem but he was eating. He seemed to be there every day, but was not getting any better. Finally, wit this cold weather, I realized that the cat was getting worse, so I trapped him immediately and thanks to Save Our Strays, I was able to bring him to a veterinarian for help. He has reacted beautifully to antibiotics, and after a week in the hospital will be neutered. When Lovey is ready, he will go back to my colony where he has a shelter, food and is safe. I will keep you posted. Lovey should be back in my colony in a week or two, thanks to Save Our Strays. Butternut - All of a sudden I am seeing more and more beautiful cats that are unneutered. I do not know where they are coming from, or who is putting them by my spots. Fewer people are allowing me to feed by their property and it is getting harder. With all the construction that is going on, rats are appearing from the digging, but these cats are being fed. It is very stressful. The new cats must be spayed before there are more, and that is what Save Our Strays and I are doing as best as we can. Butternut, a beautiful orange cat was trapped, and will be taken to a veterinarian to be checked, neutered, and then when he is ready, he will be put back at my colony. He is doing fine, and just a little aggressive, but he has to fit in. It will take time, but he will and he will be okay with the rest of the bunch. At least they have food and shelter.
