ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello Again, It’s the month of April, and, spring is upon us. It has been a tough winter. I am glad that it is gone, and I am sure that the strays agree. We can finally enjoy better weather. I would like to wish all our friends, and members a HAPPY PASSOVER, and a HAPPY EASTER. Also, a reminder that this month is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month. So, as I have said before, if you see an animal that looks as though it has been mistreated, don’t ignore it, do something about it. Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did. Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately. SARA – My worst nightmare is when I find a mother cat with a cold, and her two kittens in the street, in a lot where there is construction going on. I met a lovely animal person, who eventually took the mother cat (Sara), and her two 4 week old kittens into her home. The woman is part of a group that does TNR, and she had the appropriate antibiotic and eye medicine to nurse them back to health. She is fostering them, and when they are ready, thanks to Save Our Strays, Sara has a home to go to, and they will find a place for her kittens as well. Thank G-d Save Our Strays is there to help as much as they can. They do the best that they can wherever, and whenever they can. So, now after a horrible beginning in a dirty lot, Sara will have a forever home. We help these poor animals one at a time. If only everyone could do a little something. Thank you everyone. HARRY – Harry was a large, male feline that just appeared at one of my feeding spots. A real street cat with black, and white semi long hair, who would wait for me to put down food and walk away, and then go over to eat. The next day, I saw Harry at one of my other spots waiting for food. I realized that he had not been neutered, so I trapped him and took him to the veterinarian to be checked out, given shots and neutered. Save Our Strays took care of the bill. When he was ready, I put him back at one of my feeding spots that he was familiar with. Harry is a loner, but every morning he is there, and he seems very comfortable. He does not bother any of the other felines, and is safe. So Harry now feels that he belongs somewhere, which not only makes me happy, it makes Harry happy as well. PUMPKIN – Someone had told me about an orange, and white kitten, about 6 months old, that use to hang out behind a church. They asked me if I had seen him. The kitten did not belong to anyone, but when they saw me feeding, they asked. About two weeks ago, while I was feeding at one of my spots, all of a sudden I saw the cutest orange, and white kitten with a pathetic round face. He was so frightened that I could not get near him. I knew then, that I had to get Pumpkin a home. He stays by himself, but sometimes you just know when certain felines find it hard to be on the street, even though they are being fed every day. A woman that I know, named Helene, had lost one of her cats, due to old age. She had two cats, and now only has one – a good home, with a nice person. I told her about Pumpkin, and she immediately said yes, she would take him. I trapped Pumpkin, and took him to a veterinarian to be checked out, and neutered. He is now in his new home with Helene. She is keeping him in a separate room, and eventually he will come to realize that he is safe. I will keep you posted on Pumpkin. Save Our Strays paid the bill.
