ROBBIN’S NEST Hello Again. May is here, and spring is in full bloom. Mother nature is showing all her beautiful colors, and thank G-d, the nice weather is finally here. This is a welcome break for us, and for the strays. A reminder that this month, we also celebrate Be Kind To Animals week, from May5th through May 11th. So, remember if you see an animal that needs a helping hand, whether it be food, water or helping to find it a new home, please try to help wherever and whenever you can. Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did, and let us extend Be Kind To Animals all through the year. Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately. SARA – I received a call from someone, about a beige colored pregnant cat that they saw in the street. I immediately went over to check out the situation, and because I have a broken arm, I needed to call for assistance. We had quiet a time trapping this cat, by the Boardwalk, but eventually we got her. Sara is being fostered until she has her babies, and when she is finished caring for her babies, they will go up for adoption, and then Sara will be spayed, and cared for until we know whether or not she can be adopted. MARYANN – Maryann is a Gray and white feral cat that I spotted near the projects, while driving to one of my spots. I knew that I had to trap her, but needed to get assistance because of my arm. It took a couple of days for us to get her, but eventually she went into the trap. We took to her to a veterinarian to be spayed, and checked out, and when she was ready, she was put back where I found her, as I knew that another Rescuer feeds there. She is being well care of there, and is doing fine. NATASHA – Natasha is a Brown Tabby cat, with an adorable round face. She must have been dumped where I found her because she is very friendly, and it just so happened that the area where she was found was close to one of my feeding spots. Again, I had to call for assistance because of my arm, so that I could get her. When the other rescuer came, we got Natasha into a carrier and took her to a veterinarian to be checked out, given shots and when she is ready she will be spayed. Once she is healed, she will be then be put up for adoption.

ROBBIN’S NEST Hello Again, April is here, and, spring is upon us. It has been a hard winter. I am glad that it is behind us, and I am sure that the strays agree. We can finally enjoy better weather. I would like to wish all our friends, and members a HAPPY EASTER, and a HAPPY PASSOVER. Also, a reminder that this month is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month. So, as I have said before, if you see an animal that looks as though it has been mistreated, don’t ignore it, do something about it. Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did. Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately. ROSA – I was on my feeding rounds, and I noticed, at one of my stops, a 7 or 8 month female Tiger cat, walking down the street. I put food out for her immediately, and she came to eat. The next day, I went back and she was there. So, I put food in a trap and after a while she went in. I took her to a veterinarian to be checked, spayed, dewormed etc. and then took her to my home to heal. Since she was feral, when she was ready, I put her back in my feeding spot, since it was familiar to her, and I knew that she would be comfortable and that she would stay there. She is now part of my colony, and is doing well. MARCO – Marco appeared about a month ago at one of my spots. He stays to himself. He was raggedy, and thin, so I knew that I had to trap him and that he needed medical care. It took a while, but I finally managed to trap him. I took him to a veterinarian to be checked, and the doctor said that he had a bad case of worms, and needed to be neutered. A rescuer friend of mine held him for me, until he was better and built up a bit. When he was ready, I put him back in my colony where he is comfortable. He has been doing fine since then. PETEY – Petey was one of Sima’s kittens that I adopted out. He was very small, so I couldn’t neuter him yet, but I had found him a good home, and told his new owner to wait about 2 months before neutering him. I also told the owner that I would pick up the cat, and take him to be neutered when he is ready. I kept in touch with them, and then called them to make arrangements. They lived in Queens, so when the time came, I picked Petey up, and took him to be neutered at a veterinarian in Brooklyn. Then, later that day, Petey’s new owners met me half way to take him back home with them. Petey is happy, growing and doing very well in his new home. |
