ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello Again,

April is here, and, spring is upon us.  It has been a hard winter.  I am glad that it is behind us, and I am sure that the strays agree.  We can finally enjoy better weather.  I would like to wish all our friends, and members a HAPPY EASTER, and a HAPPY PASSOVER.  Also, a reminder that this month is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month.  So, as I have said before, if you see an animal that looks as though it has been mistreated, don’t ignore it, do something about it.  Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did.
Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately.
LAURA –
I was going on my feeding rounds, when about a half a block from one of my spots I stopped for a light and heard a cat crying.  I looked to my right, and saw a cat in distress, crying and looking to people for help.  Of course, no one responded.  So, I got out of my car, and the cat came right over to me.  I petted her, and gave her food, but she really wasn’t that hungry because she was sick.  I went to my car, and noticed

that I had forgotten to put a carrier in it. So, I called a woman that I know, who lives a block away and had a cat and I told her to come immediately with a carrier.  While
waiting for her, I tended to the cat as best I could so that it would not be frightened.  The woman came, and I put the cat in the carrier and brought the cat to my house since it was late in the evening, and could not get her to a vet at that time.  I put her in a crate in my house, and tried to comfort her until morning.  Then in the morning, I brought her to one of our veterinarians as an emergency.  They took her, checked her out and found that she had an Upper Respiratory Infection.  She was treated, and I took her back to my house to care for her.  In about ten days, when she was better, I took her back to the veterinarian for shots, deworming etc., and they said that she had already been spayed so I assumed that she had been owned by someone, and abandoned.  She is still in my house, and I will probably keep her, because she is very sweet.  Laura is doing fine.

JOLENE –
Jolene was one of the kittens that I had rescued previously from one of my spots, along with her sibling, but she is still waiting for adoption.  When I was out feeding I met someone who said that they were interested in adopting a kitten.  I evaluated the person, and the circumstances and it was a home that I could easily check on, since in was in the area where I feed.  Jolene was adopted by this person, and is happy and doing well.  Another happy ending.

VICKI –
Vicki was found by a supermarket with her kitten.  I got Vikie, and her kitten, and brought them to one of our veterinarians to checked out etc.  I socialized the kitten, whose names was Vera, and eventually found her a home.  Vicki is still semi-feral, so I put her back at one of my newer feeding where there are other cats, and where she will be safe.  As time passed, Vicki started to become friendlier.  As you know, I don’t like to leave friendly cats in the street.  So, I trapped her and she was in my house for a while.  Then, another rescuer that I know got a call from someone who wanted to adopt a female cat that was older.  Vicki now lives in a home with a nice couple, and is happy.
