Hello Again,
May is here, and spring is in full bloom. Mother nature is showing all her beautiful colors, and thank G-d, the nice weather is finally here. This is a welcome break for us, and for the strays. A reminder that this month, we also celebrate Be Kind To Animals week, from May 3rd through May 9th . So, remember if you see an animal that needs a helping hand, whether it be food, water or helping to find it a new home, please try to help wherever and whenever you can. Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did, and let us extend Be Kind To Animals all through the year. Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately. BILLY – A while back, I saw a scrawny black female cat. I knew immediately that I had to get her. She had to be spayed, and she looked so undernourished. However, the problem was that I did not always see her, and I did not know where she would go. Finally, with a lot of perseverance, I was able to trap her, terrified as she was. It was difficult, with this horrible virus going on, to find a veterinarian who is practicing so that I could have Billy spayed. Thanks to Save Our Strays, we found someone that would foster Billy after she was spayed. The fosterer will also build Billy up until she is ready to be put back at my feeding spot where she feels comfortable. After 3½ weeks, Billy was ready to be put back at my feeding spot, where there is shelter also. She is doing fine, since no one is adopting or accepting animals right now. At least, Billy is safe. SUNNY – Occasionally, you come across a feline that you just can’t put back in the street, after it has been spayed or neutered. Sunny was a 5 month old kitten that was born in the street, and I was having a difficult time catching her, so I had to ask for help. She was very timid, and scared of other cats, so she just stayed by herself petrified, and hiding in a hole by one of my feeding spots. I got in touch with a woman, who was experienced with a drop trap, which you need two people to handle. After a very frustrating morning, we got the cat, transferred her to a carrier and immediately brought her to the veterinarian to have her spayed, tested, de-wormed and everything else that we could possibly do. Sunny was scared, unhappy and cried. Now who would want a feline like that, especially when the veterinarian could not board her anymore. With what is going on with the virus, no one is accepting animals from New York. I have many cats in my home, so my house would not offer a relaxed atmosphere for Sunny, which she desperately needed. Well, all of a sudden, I received a phone call from Save Our Strays saying that the veterinarian called them, and said that one of their clients had recently lost his cat from old age, and he saw Sunny and knew that she had to be worked with. The client lived alone, and was willing to try. Everyday after that, we prayed that we would not get a call from him asking us to pick up Sunny. Well, the man told us that slowly, Sunny was getting comfortable, and the fact that she was the only cat in the apartment with this gentleman was perfect, and an answer to prayer. Thank you everyone, who helped this poor feline to find a forever home. G-d bless everyone involved. Thank you. BARRY – I do not know what is going on, but all of a sudden, in recent weeks, I see more felines that are just appearing at my feeding spots. My heart breaks, because people do not want to see more cats that have been abandoned. Between not being able to work because the restaurants are closed, which makes it difficult to survive, especially with having to buy more cat food, besides what Save Our Strays gives me, which is a very good amount, it is a very stressful situation. Being I am not that well, even though Save Our Strays does everything that they can to help, it is just getting worse. I make sure, no matter what, that every cat I see and have eats well. Barry is a raggedy looking orange Tabby, who is getting filled out with the good nourishment that I am leaving him. So he is being built up, and when we can, we will fix him up at the veterinarian’s. Meanwhile, he does not bother the other cats at the spot. Harry waits his turn to eat. He is safe, has food and will be okay, I promise. Everyone please be kind to everyone, and help the animals.
