Hello again.
This month I would like to start off by wishing all of our friends, and their families a safe, and Happy Fourth of July. Please be aware of the strays in your area, as well as your own pets, as the noise frightens them. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. JULIA A while ago, a man told me that he had to move out of his apartment, and the room that he was going to would not allow him to take his cat of 5 years with him. I gave him my phone number, and he gave me his. He never called me. I called him, but he never returned my calls. One day, I got a phone call from someone on his block telling me that he had moved, and left Julia an all black spayed female cat, behind in the apartment. I went to met the neighbor, and when I got there I noticed that the cat was looking out the window. Thank G-d it was a first-floor apartment. The house was empty. We tracked down the landlord. He met us, and we took Julia a calm, sweet feline. Within two days we found a home for her with a nice woman, and her 11 year old son. The woman told me that she thinks the cat (Julia) is depressed. I explained to her that Julia needs time to get acclimated, and adjusted to her new forever home. Julia’s owner did not do the right thing. You don’t just walk away, especially when you have a phone number to call, and someone who is willing to help you with the cat. JOEY Joey was one of 2 kittens that Dolores (the mama cat) had. The kittens were beautiful – one all orange, and one a Russian Blue. Anyway, my friend, who is an animal person, had to socialize them. They had not eaten any cat food until they were 7 weeks old. We managed to get them both together in the same trap. Joey was easier to adopt out than his sister. A nice young couple from Brooklyn came over, and took an immediate liking to Joey and Joey seemed comfortable with them. They adopted Joey. He is doing fine, and coming along. He will be neutered in a month, and is happy in his new home. TONI We recently trapped a cat that is about 8 months old. There are so many of them, most of them Russian Blue, because there are still two females that we need to have spayed. Well, we noticed that one of the cats could not see well. We trapped him, and brought him to the veterinarian to be checked out, neutered etc. The doctor said that the cat sees shadows, has damaged corneas and cannot be put back on the street. The doctor also said that he did not know how this cat had survived out there this long, being that he is not friendly, and very timid. I took him into my house, and put him in a large crate and will work with him. It is not going to be easy what with all the work I do to help animals, going to work and my challenges. Anyway, Toni is with me, in my home and is safe and will stay there. He is eating, and is confused about what to do, but he is now going in the litterbox in the crate, and when he is fully adjusted in time, he will realize that he has a forever home with me, and hopefully, he will become friendly and less timid, as he sees that he is safe, and loved.
