ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again. It’s the month of August, and I hope that you are all enjoying your summer, and staying safe. Please remember to try to keep an eye out for the strays, and help them with dry food and water whenever and wherever you can. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. RICKI – I received a phone call from someone that I know, who told me that on her way home from work, about a block from her house, she spotted a cat sitting in a crate. She realized that the cat must have been dumped there. It was a female, and very friendly. She picked up the crate, brought it up to her house, put it in the bathroom and called me. She said that she would keep the cat because it was friendly. Since, she had adopted another cat from me, named Cheeta, whom I rescued from a store, she felt that this cat would make a good companion for Cheeta. I told her that I would make an appointment with one of our veterinarians to have the cat checked, spayed etc. We brought the cat to the veterinarian, and had everything done, and Ricki is now well, and happy in her new forever home. 5 KITTEN RESCUE – I was driving down a block, on the way to one of my spots and I saw some kittens and a momma cat under a car. They were all black cats, and very skinny and sickly looking. I stopped my car, and took out some dry food, and wet food and fed them. I realized that I would have to trap these cats, and take them to one of our veterinarians to be checked, spayed/neutered etc. I am in the process of trapping the kittens – I got three already, and am working on getting the others and then, hopefully, the momma. The three kittens are being treated by a fosterer, and will be socialized. When they are ready, we will find a place for them. Meanwhile, I am feeding the other 2, and the momma and they are safe. SNOW – Around the corner from where I rescued the black kittens, at another one of my feeding spots, I saw a white cat with 3 kittens – 1 grey, and 2 white. I set a trap, and got the momma, and the kittens. I took them to one of Save Our Strays’ veterinarians, and had them all checked, given shots etc. and the Momma was spayed. The doctor said that the kittens had some minor eye problems, and Upper Respiratory Infections. They are being fostered by the same person that has the black cats, and are being treated and socialized. Thank G-d we found them, when we did. They are safe, and when they are ready, we will find a place for them. Save Our Stays paid all veterinary bills.

ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again. I would like to start off by wishing all of our friends, and their families a safe, and Happy Fourth of July. Please be aware of the strays in your area, as well as your own pets, as the noise from the fireworks frightens them. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. GISSELLE – One morning, at about 7:00 a.m., I received a phone call from an animal worker who sometimes helps me. She asked me to bring her a carrier because as she was driving in Coney Island she spotted a few cats. She stopped to check it out, and saw that they were hungry, and one of the cats was very friendly. I rushed over to meet her with the carrier, and we got the friendly cat into the carrier. We took the cat, an extremely friendly female whom we named Gisselle, to the veterinarian to be checked out, spayed etc. We put out an advertisement to get her adopted, and a week later we got a response from a women who was interested, and willing to adopt her, and work with her, as Gisselle needed to be built up, and also needed time to heal. Gisselle now has a new forever home, and is doing well. SHADOW – I received a call from someone who went into a Bodega, and the woman told me that the owner had a cat the was spraying, and the customers were complaining about the smell. I told her that I would go right over a check it out. When I got there, I spoke to the owner and explained that this is the reason that cats need to be neutered. He told me that the cat had never been seen by a veterinarian. So, I educated him, and he agreed to allow me to take the cat to a veterinarian to be neutered, given shots etc. Two days later, I went back to the Bodega and picked up the cat to take it to the veterinarian. The owner said that he wants to keep the cat, so I told him that when Shadow is ready, he will be returned to him. I took the cat to be taken care of, and then picked him up from the veterinarian the next day, and returned him to the Bodega owner. I went back twice the next day to make sure that Shadow had everything that he needed, and he was fine. BOBBY – Bobby, a black domestic short-haired cat, showed up at one of my feeding spots one day, he seemed a bit thin and was very timid. I felt bad for him, and did not to frighten him, so I carefully put down food and water for him and he came right over to eat. I left him alone so that he would feel comfortable there, as this is one of my safe spots. When I went back the next day, he was hiding, but I was happy that he felt comfortable enough to stay there. I will be taking him to be checked out, neutered etc as soon as possible, but meanwhile he is safe and has plenty of food. I will keep you posted. |
