Hello again.
It’s the month of August, and I hope that you are all enjoying your summer, and staying safe. Please remember to try to keep an eye out for the strays, and help them with dry food and water whenever and wherever you can. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. ROMONA – One day, while I was out feeding, I came across an all-grey cat with white paws. She was skinny, frail, had bad eyes and was not friendly. I knew that I had to get help for her. The only way to catch her was to use a drop trap. Finally, with help and patience, and after many hours in the heat, we got Romona and brought her, through Save Our Strays, to a veterinarian as an emergency case. She is being cared for, and evaluated, so we know what to do with Romona. Once she is built up, and healthy enough, she will either be socialized or put at one of my safer, better colonies. We worked with Romona, but she seemed to want to go back to the street. So Romona was worked with so that she would fit into one of my safer colonies with shelter, and plenty of food, where I can watch her and protect her. The cats at this colony really just like to be left alone. Hopefully, so far Romona seems comfortable. ROCHESTER – Well, thank G-d for Save Our Strays. I was at my stop in Coney Island, and there was a cat who couldn’t put his leg down, and was in pain. He must have gotten out of an apartment next door, where there is a family house, because he wasn’t one of my regulars from the colony, and he wasn’t neutered. Anyway, I called Save Our Strays and told them the situation, and they immediately said to get him to a veterinarian to be neutered, given shots, deflead and to fix whatever is wrong with his leg. Well, Rochester is at the veterinarian’s office healing. His leg is bruised, and he must have care and antibiotics. He is coming along, and I am trying to find a foster home for him. The home he came from was a bad home, not a good one, so he cannot go back there. I am so overwhelmed, but if he has to go into my house Rochester will be okay either way. OSCAR – One day, I saw an male orange cat, about 7 months old, walking around timid, but hanging out at one of my feeding spots. He runs away when he sees me, but then will come back when he thinks that I am not there. Well, I told an animal rescuer friend of mine about him, and she and I went a few times in the mornings to try to get him. Finally, one day he went into the trap. My friend held him for two days until we could get an appointment with a veterinarian to be neutered, checked out and given blood tests. He would just cry to get out of the cage, but she could not put him with the other cats until we knew that he was healthy. Because he was friendly, and adoptable and could not be put back in the street. Oscar turned out to be healthy, and my friend brought him home to her house and he is mingling slowly with the other felines, and follows her everywhere. Oscar is safe. We will try to find him a forever home.
