Robbin's Nest September 2020 Edition

Hello Again,

The month of September is here. Please remember to keep an eye out for the strays in your area, and to start setting up those shelters for the strays, as the cooler weather is right around the corner.

On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that we have been involved in lately.

Poor Harry - Every morning on the way to my feeding spots, I have been noticing a Tuxedo cat, who I named Harry. He was kind of raggedy, timid, and even though he was tough-looking, I found out later on that he wasn't like that at all. My colony has a lot of different cats, and they don't bother anyone, but for some reason Harry is intimidated and has a fear about walking to the back where I usually put the food to keep it out of sight. So now, every morning between 7:00 and 8:00 am harry comes to eat, and I feed him in front of a house and wait until he is finished. It really is extra anxiety for me because I have to wait for Harry to finish eating, and then pick up the plate. Anyway, this is what I will be doing until a better solution is found. Meanwhile, he will eat, thanks to Save Our Strays. There are a lot of male cats that I will have neutered, and put back in my colony, unless I am lucky enough to find homes for them. Meanwhile, they will eat and one by one I, and Save Our Strays, will have them neutered, given shots and whatever else is necessary. G-d be with them.

Tommy - A few months ago, I wrote a story about a cat Suzi, who had a red collar, and had been thrown out by her previous owner near one of my feeding spots in Coney Island. Since Suzi was friendly, I took her to be spayed etc, and within a few weeks, she was adopted. Then, about two weeks ago, I passed a house that was near one of my feeding spots in Brighton, and saw a frightened looking mackerel kitten, about 3 months old. I immediately trapped him and called a rescuer friend of mine. We evaluated Tommy, and. took him to the veterinarian to be neutered etc. Soon after, my rescuer friend received a call from the person who had adopted Suzi, saying that she wanted to get a playmate for Suzi. So, we made arrangements for Tommy to be Suzi's playmate. This is one of the few happy endings. Suzi is a special cat, who loves everyone, so she made Tommy feel very comfortable in his new home, within a short period of time.

Lana - Everyday, early in the morning I have been noticing that so many ne felines have been dumped near my feeding spots. One of them is a whiteish Calico cat, who I named Lana. I knew that Lana had to be fixed, so I made an appointment with a veterinarian to have her taken care of. It is not as easy to get an appointment now as it was before - more often than not you have to wait. Meanwhile, I am feeding Lana every day and she waits for me - until the day of her appointment comes around. I just worry about what will happen in the winter, with all these new cats that are friendly, and it not being an easy task to find homes for them, with what is going on now. Anyway, Lana was finally spayed and has since recuperated. I put her back in my colony where she is comfortable and we will take it one day at a time. At least Lana is safe, and has plenty of shelter. Save Our Strays pays the medical bills.
