ROBBIN’S NEST Hello again. I would like to begin by wishing all of our friends, and members a HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY. October, and the cooler weather will be here before long. I know that I have said this before, but please remember that now is also the time to start setting up our shelters for the strays to prepare for the cooler months ahead. We are also celebrating Halloween this month, so please remember to keep an eye out for the strays in your area, and your own pets as well. Watch out for black cats especially, as they are targeted this time of year. As I always say, “we must remember that we are their guardians.” On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately. BRANDON – Someone told me about a male Tabby cat – about 5 months old – that they had seen in a Bodega in the area. The person told me that the cat had a very bad flea problem. I immediately went to check it out. After evaluating the situation, I immediately called Save Our Strays, and they made an appointment with a veterinarian for Bandon to be checked out, given shots, de-flead, dewormed and neutered. He had a flea allergy, and was given proper medication and is now back in the Bodega hopefully, having a decent life. I do check. BETSY – When I go on my feeding rounds, I usually drive by the projects to check to see if there are any felines there that need help. Betsy is one of the many that I have seen there. She was spayed, and put back, but there are many more cats to be done. There is a feeder there, so that is a relief. One by one, we will do the best we can to spay/neuter. Trapping is stressful, but it is something that must be done. With all the TNR that we do, it just doesn’t seem to make the problem less. SHERRY – Near the supermarket where I go to shop, I have been feeding about 5 cats, there was one that I had trouble trapping, and I could never get close enough to see if it was male or female. As time went on, to surprise, a little Tuxedo kitten appeared with its momma. Eventually, we got the momma spayed and since she was feral, when she was ready, she was put back at the feeding spot. Then, we finally managed to get little Sherry, her kitten. Sherry was young enough to be socialized, and in time, will go up for adoption. That’s all for now, but I will be back in November, I’m sure, with more stories.

![]() ROBBIN’S NEST Hello again. It’s hard to believe that the summer is over, and it’s September already? Please remember to keep an eye out for the strays in your area, and to start setting up those shelters for the strays, as the cooler weather is right around the corner. On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that we have been involved in lately. CHRISY – One day, while driving with another rescuer, we noticed an extremely skinny, raggedy Russian Blue cat with her stomach hanging. Worried that she had kittens, we left food and went back every day for the next few days. Finally, we followed her and spoke to a man from a tire store nearby, who said that the cat had given birth to two kittens and someone came and took the kittens, but left the mother (how cruel). So, we went back again and trapped her because no one was really taking care of her. We got her, and she is now being built up before she gets spayed. She is undernourished. The other rescuer is fostering her, and she is being socialized. She is just very timid. I will keep you updated on Chrisy, but meanwhile she is safe and seems relieved. JESSY – As I was driving, I noticed a small kitten hanging out by some stores. I fed it, trapped it and then went into a deli nearby to get myself some coffee. While I was there, I asked the owner if he knew about this little orange and white kitten, which was about 5 months old. He said that someone must have dumped the kitten there. To my surprise, the owner told me that if the cat was fixed and given shots, he would take it and make it his family cat. He said he, and his wife were looking for a pet. The man seemed sincere, and since I am so overloaded with cats and the shelters are full, I accepted his offer and knew that I could check on Jessy. So, with the help of Save Our Strays, Jessy was fixed and now has a forever home and is very happy. JENNY – A rescuer friend of mine told me that someone in the area where she lives had told her that there were 3 kittens near there. They were being fed, but they had not been spayed or neutered. So, I realized that we have to spay the mothers. We caught the kittens, but now we have quite a job getting the adult females. We started with one, and we will continue until we get all of the females. Jenny is the first one. The kittens are being fostered, and one by one, we will get the others. Thank G-d there is a feeder because I cannot take on another feeding spot. At least these cats will be okay. We are working very hard feeding, and trapping so that we can get them to the veterinarian to take care of their medical needs. I could tell you more, and I will next month. Till then. MEOW! |
