ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again. I would like to begin by wishing all of our friends, and members a HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY. October, and the cooler weather will be here before long. I know that I have said this before, but please remember that now is also the time to start setting up our shelters for the strays to prepare for the cooler months ahead. We are also celebrating Halloween this month, so please remember to keep an eye out for the strays in your area, and your own pets as well. Watch out for black cats especially, as they are targeted this time of year. As I always say, “we must remember that we are their guardians.” On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately. SPANKY – I received a call from a fellow animal worker, after we both had finished work. She told me that when she got home, she saw a grey and white Domestic Short-Haired kitten sitting in front of her door. When she opened her door the kitten, whom we named Spanky, ran right in, started running around and then jumped right on her bed, ;and made himself comfortable. She was amazed that he was so happy, and acted as thought he belonged there. The next day, we took him to the veterinarian and had him checked out, given shots etc. and cleaned up. After that, off he went to live with my friend’s mother, who is so happy to have him. Spanky is doing great, and since he is only 2½ months old, he will be neutered when he gets a little older, and is fattened up a little bit. Meanwhile, Spanky and mom are happy. MAMA – One day, I received a call from a woman about a mother cat, and 4 kittens that were in someone’s yard. So, of course, I told the woman to feed her, and that someone would come and get them. Well, the mother cat was very frightened, but the four kittens – Joey, Tony, Jackie and Theresa – were beautiful, and became socialized very quickly. Probably because they were 5 weeks old. Anyway, after getting the mama spayed and having them all checked out, the mama, who is all black, and the kittens – 2 Tabbys, 1 grey and 1 Tuxedo, were all found to be healthy. The Tabbys, one female and one male – Joey and Theresa - went together to a forever home. The other two kittens – Jackie and Tony – were adopted individually. Mama also found a forever home. It was a great rescue. SCRAPPY – I found it a little upsetting when I got to one of my feeding spots, and all of a sudden, a feline all skin and bones came up to me crying for help. It was heartbreaking. Obviously, this cat, who I named Scrappy, had been abandoned. I, of course, immediately set a trap with food and in he went. He was still kind of young, about 8 months old. I brought him to my house, but had to wait until the next day to have him checked by a doctor. When we did go to the veterinarian, Scrappy was cleaned up, dewormed and given shots. After that, I took him back to my house where he will stay until he gains weight. Then, he can be neutered and he will be ready for a forever home. He is doing well now, but needs to put on more weight. Meanwhile, he is safe, and hopefully, happy.
