Hello again.
I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. November is here, and the cooler weather has started. If you haven’t set up your shelters for the strays, to prepare for the cooler months ahead, now is the time. We must always remember that “we are their guardians.” On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately. HARRY Harry is a street cat, who is mostly grey with a little bit of white mixed in. He is kind of a bully, but what can I do. This is one of my big feeding spots, with which I have always had some trouble. So I stay when I can, and leave plenty of food, in different spots to make sure that everyone gets fed, in case someone comes along and decides to pick up a dish. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I saw a young girl with her mother, and a little dog and they were petting Harry. To my surprise, it was nice to see because Harry always ran from me. They told me that they wanted Harry, and their dog and he got along well. They lived on the block so we exchanged numbers, and Harry went with them. They were so kind to Harry. I agreed that it was meant to be. Now Harry has a home on the block where I feed, and there is one less cat living on the street. Sometimes we have good endings. TOM-TOM I have been feeding Tom-Tom for almost 12 years, next to a grocery, with no problem. I built him a shelter, and no one bothered him. He was a mackerel grey Domestic Shorthair cat. Then, they started doing construction in the area. So, I asked the people next door if I could move the shelter by them, and they said “no problem.” Well, not long after that, the landlord decided to visit, and had a fit when he saw the shelter there – a really mean individual. My friend, who has six cats, said that she felt so bad for poor Tom-Tom, being that he was so old, and that she wanted to take him. All of Chris’s cats are feral, so TomTom fit right in. Feral cats just want to be left alone. She put Tom-Tom in a crate until he, and her other cats became adjusted. When he was ready, she let him out and no more street for Tom-Tom. All the cats just chill, and do their thing. FRANCO – Franco, a white Tabby cat, was found in Ridgewood as I was riding with a friend in my car. We saw him just cowering by some grass. I stopped the car, and asked some of the people there if he belonged to anyone, but everyone that we asked said no. Franco was timid, but friendly. I picked him up, and brought him to a veterinarian to be checked, and given shots. We also noticed that he had obviously not been neutered. Save Our Strays, and I took care of all his medical needs, including the neutering. An acquaintance of my friend, said that he would hold Franco. Even though he meant well, this turned out to be a bad idea. He had a dog that loved cats, but Franco was unhappy. Another friend of ours, who was in the Real Estate business, said that she knew of someone who wanted a female cat. We knew that Franco didin’t exactly fit the bill, but we brought him over anyway, thinking that since, he was so sweet, she might take him. Well, thank G-d, she did take him when she saw how nice he was. So far, it is working out well. It has been three weeks, and the woman and Franco are happy together.
