Hello again.
I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. November is here, and the cooler weather has started. If you haven’t set up your shelters for the strays, to prepare for the cooler months ahead, now is the time. We must always remember that “we are their guardians.” On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately. LITTLE MAMA – I was so happy when Little Mama was adopted yesterday. I picked up Little Mama almost two months ago. She was terribly thin, and very timid. The male cats were harassing her, so I called a fellow trapper that I know of, who has a drop trap, to help me get her. She was able to trap Little Mama, and we built her up. Little Mama turned out to be friendly, and we knew that we could not put her back in the street, so she was worked with, and fostered. Well, about a month later, some people came over, who wanted to adopt an orange that we had advertised. So, they looked at Little Mama, and even though she wasn’t orange, but a Russian Blue, with orange on one of her back legs, they fell in love with her and off she went to her forever home. I was so happy because Little Mama was under a year old, but not a kitten, but everything turned out fine. P.S.:- The family called last night, and said that their cat is happy with Little Mama, and wants to play with her. TABITHA – One morning as I was doing my feeding, It was still dark and I had just gotten to my second stop. Usually when I get there, there are two Tiger cats waiting there to be fed. This time, all of sudden, a Tortoise Shell around 6 months old, came running toward the plate of food that I had put down. I did a doubletake because I thought I was imagining things, but it was real. I said, “oh my G-d, where did she come from?” All the other cats had been spayed, and neutered, so obviously she had been dumped there. I felt terrible for her – poor baby. I panicked because I was going to work, and did not have time to set up a trap at that moment, but I decided that I would do so later, hoping that she would still be there when I came back. After work I went back, but did not see her. I called a friend who fosters, and looks for homes for friendly cats, to let her know in case she sees Tabitha. Well, the next morning at 6:00 a.m., I got a call from my friend saying that she drove to my feeding spot, and had managed to trap Tabitha. I was so happy. Tabitha has since been spayed, and given all her shots. We have also advertised for a forever home for her. Since we only have Tabitha for a week, I will keep you posted on her adoption as soon as it comes through. Meanwhile, she is safe, and getting accustomed to love. HARVEY – One day, I was approached by a woman who lives on the block where one of my feeding spots is located. This woman had given a home to one of the strays on her block, and Save Our Strays had arranged for this cat named Leo, to be neutered and given medical care. Well, the woman said that she wanted to give Leo a friend, and noticed that I had been feeding a cat that looked just like Leo. So I met her at my feeding spot to make sure that I was going to trap the correct feline. She pointed out the cat that she was interested in, who she called Harvey, and at the right time, we caught him. We took Harvey straight to the veterinarian, and had everything medically taken care of. I picked Harvey up, and brought him to his new home to meet Leo. At first, we separated them, but I think Leo recognized Harvey from being outside. Anyway, in time they were best buddies, and occasionally we get a good ending.
