ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.  November is here, and the cooler weather has started.  If you haven’t set up your shelters for the strays, to prepare for the cooler months ahead, now is the time.  We must always remember that “we are their guardians.”

On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately.

CLARA –
One of the other rescuers that I know called me to tell me that she had seen a very skinny cat on a sidewalk, near where she was feeding and fed her.  I went to meet the rescuer, to see if we could trap the cat.  After leaving food here every day, for a few days, we finally saw the cat, who we named Clara, again and trapped her.  We took Clara to a veterinarian immediately, and had her checked out, spayed, given all the necessary tests and built her up.  During the time that we were trying to get her, we happened to be speaking to woman who lives in the area, and she had seen the cat and wanted to adopt her, but did not know how to catch her.  The woman had a cat of her own, so I told her that the best thing to do, when she got Clara home, was to keep her cat and Clara separated until they learned to accept each other.  So, the woman kept Clara in a separate room, and eventually she was accepted, and she even began to let the woman pet her.  It is so nice when we have a nice ending.

CARLA –
While on my feeding my route one morning, I was stopped at traffic a light and glanced to the right and saw a pregnant, very disheveled Calico cat just laying on the sidewalk.  I pulled my car over, and jumped out.  I got some food, and a carrier, not knowing if she was feral or not, but just knowing that Carla had to be caught.  I approached her slowly, put food into the carrier, and gently started petting her.  She was hesitant at first, but allowed me to touch her.  She walked into the carrier, and I rushed her to a veterinarian, where they told me that she had a skin infection, and was anemic.  We have everything that she needed to get healthy, and now Carla is resting comfortably in a foster home, until she is well enough to go to her new home.  It is so important to be aware of  your surroundings.  Anyway, Clara is safe.

ROSA –
I went into a grocery store, and the owner had a small female cat there that did not look well.  They told me that Rosa, the cat, just walked into the store about 2 months ago, so they would feed her.  Save Our Strays made an appointment for us to take Rosa to one of their participating veterinarians.  After examining Rosa, the veterinarian told us that she had an Upper Respiratory Infection, and that she had already been spayed.  So, obviously she had been put out by her previous owner.  I went to the store everyday to feed her, and build her up and one of their customers, who already had 2 cats of her own, decided to take her home.  Rosa is a gentle cat, and would do better in a quiet environment.  The woman put her in a playpen for awhile so that all the cats could get accustomed to each other.  Slowly, they all are adjusting to each other.  Thank G-d.
