Hello again.
The Holidays are here, and I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a Joyous Holiday Season. The cold weather is upon us, and I hope that you all have your shelters ready to protect the strays from the elements. Remember that we are their guardians. I can’t say this often enough. Now, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. TINA Let me tell you about Tina. While on my feeding route early in the morning, I spotted an elderly female cat with a clipped ear, and not looking too well. She was straggly, skinny and really sickly looking. She really was pathetic. I was able to pick her up because it seemed that her back legs were weak, and so was she. She didn’t even hiss. I put her in a carrier, and rushed her to an animal hospital. At first, the veterinarian thought that the problem was her kidneys. He took blood, and when the results came back, we found out that Tina had Diabetes. Well, here is an elderly, sick cat that needs insulin daily, as well as special food. There was only one thing to do – take her home, and keep her. They taught me how to give her the shots, and so far she is doing much better. She is not suffering, and will live out her life as comfortable as can be. Thank G-d I found her. Save Our Strays will continue to pay for her insulin, and veterinary bills. PEARL I find this story incredible. It is so important to find the right veterinarian, who will go the extra mile, and not just take the easy way out, because are not knowledgeable or they are just lazy. I found Pearl, a disoriented, skinny and badly malnourished cat, who was in such bad shape that I thought she had neurological problems. I took her to two different veterinarians, and they did blood tests, but did not see anything. One veterinarian said that the cat needed an MRI. It was very expensive, so Save Our Strays, and I thought we should get one more opinion. I went to another veterinarian that I had used before, and trusted. He took the time to look at the blood tests on her that I had sent to him from the other veterinarian, which showed nothing. He said, “let’s try a vitamin B regimen.” He noticed that Pearl would drool, and lose her balance, and said that he had seen this condition before. Well, after good food, and lots of vitamin B, Pearl is now chubby and adoptable. Thanks to the doctor and my friend, who is taking care of her she is beautiful and ready for adoption, but Pearl is so attached to my friend that every time people come to adopt her, she panics. So my friend is waiting, and hopefully, the right person will click with Pearl. If not, my friend will keep her, since Pearl is so happy and healthy. As it turned out, Pearl never needed an MRI, and with quality food and love, and a doctor who knew his stuff, she beat the odds. I love this rescue. BOO & BOBO Boo, and Bobo are two kittens, brother and sister, that are about 3 months old. Their mama was there also, but was unable to care for them properly due to the interference of well-meaning people, who did not realize that their interference was causing a problem. Despite that, we managed to get Boo and Bobo. Boo, the female, is all black and Bobo has a little bit of white on his head. They lost their fear quickly, and are very loveable. They will be built up, cleaned up, spayed and neutered and given shots. After that, hopefully, they will be ready for adoption. Now, we are working on getting the mama. It is just a little extra work. She is not taking off as much when she sees me, but she is fearful. I will keep you posted on the mama. Boo, and Bobo are doing great, thanks to Save Our Strays. Now, we are looking for a forever home for them.
