Hello again.
The Holidays are here, and I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a Joyous Holiday Season. The cold weather is upon us, and I hope that you all have your shelters ready to protect the strays from the elements. Remember that we are their guardians. I can’t say this often enough. Now, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately. HARVEY – With the cold weather approaching, I really worry about the animals getting through the winter. It is hard enough for the strays to deal with the summer heat, but the frigid temperatures are even more difficult for them. Harvey is an older Tiger cat that is really not tough. He is a sweet cat, but it has been hard to find him a home because there are more homeless animals, than there are homes for them. I was a little worried because I had not seen Harvey for a few days. He always waits in the same spot to be fed. I asked some of the people on the block, that I know are compassionate towards animals, if they had seen Harvey around. Much to my surprise, after a few more days, one of the neighbors told me that a woman saw Harvey, and took him into her home. Good news like this makes you realize that there are still some good, and compassionate people out there. I am going to keep asking around to try to find out where Harvey is. I feel that if the woman, whoever she may be, was interested enough to take Harvey, she did the right thing. I will keep searching, and hoping that Harvey is in a warm home. PATCHES – One day, when my friend and I were walking to my car, we saw a female cat. We spoke softly to her, and she came over to us. She was very friendly, and looking for someone to go with. We named her Patches. I knew that we could not leave her there, so I put her in a carrier. My friend called a man that she knows, who is helps animals, to see if he could foster the cat who was older – about 10 years old. Greg (the fosterer) had taken in a dog named Rocky that I found a few years ago, and he also had taken a cat from me about a year ago. Greg said that he would take Patches, and my friend brought her to his house in Staten Island. His dog immediately took a liking to Patches. Save Our Strays made an appointment to have her spayed, checked out and given shots. Meanwhile, Greg fell in love with Patches, and is keeping her. Everyone is happy. What a good ending. RONNIE & REA – My friend, and I were trying to get some female cats out of a firehouse when we noticed 2 kittens behind a gate, and we could not get to them. We kept going back at different times to check the spot, and finally, we caught a break when the gate was opened. We immediately set traps, and one, two, three Ronnie and Rea went in. My friend is fostering them until we can socialize them, fix them and they are ready for adoption. They are coming along great, getting loveable and friendly, and when they are ready for homes they will go. We just have to find the right home for each of them. Ronnie, and Rea are doing well, and maybe by the time this goes to press they will have been adopted.
