ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

It’s hard to believe that the summer is over, and it’s September already?  Please remember to keep an eye out for the strays in your area, and to start setting up shelters for the strays, as the cooler weather is right around the corner.

On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that we have been involved in lately.

SAMMY –
Sammy is a 4 month old kitten, who I came upon a couple of months ago.  The place where I found him, is one of my worst spots, because none of the cats were spayed or neutered.  They were all extremely skinny, malnourished and had never seen a veterinarian.  I took over the spot, of course, and started feeding them twice a day.  There are so many cats that it is overwhelming.  Anyway, the cats are starting to look better, because they are getting proper nourishment.  We started getting the females spayed first.  Sammy, who we thought was a girl, was extremely friendly.  So, we didn’t have to trap him.  We just put him right into a carrier.  He is extremely sweet.  When we realized he was a male, we had him neutered right away.  I did not want to put him back in the spot,
which is someone’s yard because he is extremely gentle, and sweet.  So, in two days I found a home for him with a person who has 2 other cats.  One senior, and one a little younger.  My friend dropped Sammy off at his new home, and I gave the new owner a crate to keep him in until her cats accept him.

BELLA –
Bella is a white cat that I found around the corner from the spot where Sammy was.  She had to be socialized a little bit, because she had very little or no human contact.  She had an Upper Respiratory Infection, so I took her to one of our veterinarians where she was given treatment.   She was then placed with a foster that works with me, where she was being cared for, and was socialized.  When she was ready, she was taken back to the veterinarians and was spayed, checked, given shots etc.  Then, about three and a half weeks later, we found her a home with a single woman and she, and the woman are very happy together.

HARRY –
One day, while at one of my feeding spots, I spotted Harry a gray Tabby cat.  He was very skinny, and sickly looking.  He hardly ate any of the food that I put down.  So, I set up a trap, and put some salmon in it, which he liked, followed the smell and after a while he finally went in.  I brought him right to one of our veterinarians where he was checked out, and treated and the doctor said that he needed to be built up.  I took him home, and still have him in my house where he will be cared for.  When he is ready, I will decide what to do next, and will update you on his progress.  Meanwhile, he is safe, and being cared for.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

It’s the month of August, and I hope that you are all enjoying your summer, and staying safe.  Please remember to try to keep an eye out for the strays, and help them with dry food and water whenever and wherever you can.

On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately.

RICKI –
I received a phone call from someone that I know, who told me that on her way home from work, about a block from her house, she spotted a cat sitting in a crate.  She realized that the cat must have been dumped there.  It was a female, and very friendly.  She picked up the crate, brought it up to her house, put it in the bathroom and called me.  She said that she would keep the cat because it was friendly.  Since, she had adopted another cat from me, named Cheeta, whom I rescued from a store, she felt that this cat would make a good companion for
Cheeta.  I told her that I would make an appointment with one of our veterinarians to have the cat checked, spayed etc.  We brought the cat to the veterinarian, and had everything done, and Ricki is now well, and happy in her new forever home.

5 KITTEN RESCUE –
I was driving down a block, on the way to one of my spots and I saw some kittens and a momma cat under a car.  They were all black cats, and very skinny and sickly looking.  I stopped my car, and took out some dry food, and wet food and fed them.  I realized that I would have to trap these cats, and take them to one of our veterinarians to be checked, spayed/neutered etc.  I am in the process of trapping the kittens – I got three already, and am working on getting the others and then, hopefully, the momma.  The three kittens are being treated by a fosterer, and will be socialized.  When they are ready, we will find a place for them.  Meanwhile, I am feeding the other 2, and the momma and they are safe.

SNOW –
Around the corner from where I rescued the black kittens, at another one of my feeding spots, I saw a white cat with 3 kittens – 1 grey, and 2 white.  I set a trap, and got the momma, and the kittens.  I took them to one of Save Our Strays’ veterinarians, and had them all checked, given shots etc. and the Momma was spayed.  The doctor said that the kittens had some minor eye problems, and Upper Respiratory Infections.  They are being fostered by the same person that has the black cats, and are being treated and socialized.  Thank G-d we found them, when we did.  They are safe, and when they are ready, we will find a place for them.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

I would like to start off by wishing all of our friends, and their families a safe, and Happy Fourth of July.  Please be aware of the strays in your area, as well as your own pets, as the noise from the fireworks frightens them.
On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately.

GISSELLE –
One morning, at about 7:00 a.m., I received a phone call from an animal worker who sometimes helps me.  She asked me to bring her a carrier because as she was driving in Coney Island she spotted a few cats.  She stopped to check it out, and saw that they were hungry, and one of the cats was very friendly.  I rushed over to meet her with the carrier, and we got the friendly cat into the carrier.  We took the cat, an extremely friendly female whom we named Gisselle, to the veterinarian to be checked out, spayed etc.  We put out an advertisement to get her adopted, and a week later we got a response from a women who was interested, and willing to adopt her, and work with her, as Gisselle needed to be built up, and also needed time to heal.  Gisselle now has a new forever home, and is doing well.

SHADOW –
I received a call from someone who went into a Bodega, and the woman told me that the owner had a cat the was spraying, and the customers were complaining about the smell.  I told her that I would go right over a check it out.  When I got there,  I spoke to the owner and explained that this is the reason that cats need to be neutered.  He told me that the cat had never been seen by a veterinarian.  So, I educated him, and he agreed to allow me to take the cat to a veterinarian to be neutered, given shots etc.  Two days later, I went back to the Bodega and picked up the cat to take it to the veterinarian.  The owner said that he wants to keep the cat, so I told him that when Shadow is ready, he will be returned to him.  I took the cat to be taken care of, and then picked him up from the veterinarian the next day, and returned him to the Bodega owner.  I went back twice the next day to make sure that Shadow had everything that he needed, and he was fine.

BOBBY –
Bobby, a black domestic short-haired cat, showed up at one of my feeding spots one day, he seemed a bit thin and was very timid.  I felt bad for him, and did not to frighten him, so I carefully put down food and water for him and he came right over to eat.  I left him alone so that he would feel comfortable there, as this is one of my safe spots.  When I went back the next day, he was hiding, but I was happy that he felt comfortable enough to stay there.  I will be taking him to be checked out, neutered etc as soon as possible, but meanwhile he is safe and has plenty of food.  I will keep you posted.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

June is here, and I would like to start off this month, by wishing all fathers, both human and animal, a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY.  Now that the warmer weather is finally here, it is more important than ever to be aware of the strays out there.  In the summer it is just as hard for them to find food, and especially water as it doesn’t rain as much this time of year.  Food that is thrown out, and put in the garbage is not always an option, since the heat spoils the food.  Although the warmer weather is a welcome break for all of us, the strays always need our help.

Now I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in recently.

ANGEL –
While driving to one of my colonies to feed, I looked to the left and saw a Tabby cat between two old buildings, just laying there.  I stopped the car, and went to investigate.  The cat, a female, didn’t run away.  I had food in my hands to show that I was a friend, and coaxed her to come to me.  Meanwhile, before I got out of my car I had set up a carrier in case I was successful in getting her, so that she would go right in.  It was not as easy as I thought it would be to get her to go in, but with my one arm, I grabbed her by the scruff, and put her in the carrier.  She must have been dumped there, because she was friendly.  I took her to a veterinarian to be checked etc.  Then got someone to foster her, until she was adopted.  We called her Angel, because she was an angel, and within two and a half weeks, she was adopted.  She is now living in Queens.

NUGGET –
Nugget is an all-black female domestic short-haired cat, with 2 baby kittens that I saw about a block and a half from another one of my colonies, in an empty lot.  I had to get a rescuer friend of mine to help me trap her.  We put food in a trap, and the mother went right in.  Then we got the 2 kittens, who were also all black, and put them in with her.  The kittens are only about 2 wks old, so they and the mother will have to be fostered together until the kittens are ready for adoption, and she is ready to be spayed.  Meanwhile, they are all safe, and I will keep you updated.

BOBBY –
Bobby is a white, and black cat who showed up at one of my feeding spot.  He looked vert straggly, and sick.  He also had diarrhea.  We tried to get him with a trap, to no avail, so we to use a drop trap instead.  We finally got him, and rushed to a veterinarian to be checked completely and treated.  He was there for a couple of days, but because he was feral, the veterinarian had problems handling him.  So, after three days, I had a rescuer that I know, who knew how to handle him go with me to pick him up.  We got whatever medicine that we needed from the veterinarian, and the rescuer took him home, and for eight days gave him the medicine that he needed.  Then, when his stomach was better, we brought him to another veterinarian, and found that he needed dental work.  He had eight teeth pulled, and the rescuer took him home to recuperate.  A week later, when he was much better, since he knew my feeding colony, we put him back here.  He looks great, is doing fine and is comfortable there.  Bobby is doing okay.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello Again.

May is here, and spring is in full bloom.  Mother nature is showing all her beautiful colors, and thank G-d, the nice weather is finally here.  This is a welcome break for us, and for the strays.  A reminder that this month, we also celebrate Be Kind To Animals week, from May5th through May 11th.  So, remember if you see an animal that needs a helping hand, whether it be food, water or helping to find it a new home, please try to help wherever and whenever you can.  Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did, and let us extend Be Kind To Animals all through the year.

Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately.

SARA –
I received a call from someone, about a beige colored pregnant cat that they saw in the street.  I immediately went over to check out the situation, and because I have a broken arm, I needed to call for assistance.  We had quiet a time trapping this
cat, by the Boardwalk, but eventually we got her.  Sara is being fostered until she has
her babies, and when she is finished caring for her babies, they will go up for adoption, and then Sara will be spayed, and cared for until we know whether or not she can be adopted.

MARYANN –
Maryann is a Gray and white feral cat that I spotted near the projects, while driving to one of my spots.  I knew that I had to trap her, but needed to get assistance because of my arm.  It took a couple of days for us to get her, but eventually she went into the trap.  We took to her to a veterinarian to be spayed, and checked out, and when she was ready, she was put back where I found her, as I knew that another Rescuer feeds there.  She is being well care of there, and is doing fine.

NATASHA –
Natasha is a Brown Tabby cat, with an adorable round face.  She must have been dumped where I found her because she is very friendly, and it just so happened
that the area where she was found was close to one of my feeding spots.  Again, I had
to call for assistance because of my arm, so that I could get her.  When the other rescuer came, we got Natasha into a carrier and took her to a veterinarian to be checked out, given shots and when she is ready she will be spayed.  Once she is healed, she will be then be put up for adoption.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello Again,

April is here, and, spring is upon us.  It has been a hard winter.  I am glad that it is behind us, and I am sure that the strays agree.  We can finally enjoy better weather.  I would like to wish all our friends, and members a HAPPY EASTER, and a HAPPY PASSOVER.  Also, a reminder that this month is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month.  So, as I have said before, if you see an animal that looks as though it has been mistreated, don’t ignore it, do something about it.  Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did.

Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately.

ROSA –
I was on my feeding rounds, and I noticed, at one of my stops, a 7 or 8 month female Tiger cat, walking down the street.  I put food out for her immediately, and she came to eat.  The next day, I went back and she was there. So, I put food in a trap and after a while she went in.  I took her to a veterinarian to be checked, spayed, dewormed etc. and then took her to my home to heal.  Since she was feral, when she was ready, I put her back in my feeding spot, since it was familiar to her, and I knew that she would be comfortable and that she would stay there.  She is now part of my colony, and is doing well.

MARCO –
Marco appeared about a month ago at one of my spots.  He stays to himself.  He was raggedy, and thin, so I knew that I had to trap him and that he needed medical care.  It took a while, but I finally managed to trap him.  I took him to a veterinarian to be checked, and the doctor said that he had a bad case of worms, and needed to be neutered.  A rescuer friend of mine held him for me, until he was better and built up a bit.  When he was ready, I put him back in my colony where he is comfortable.  He has been doing fine since then.

PETEY –
Petey was one of Sima’s kittens that I adopted out.  He was very small, so I couldn’t neuter him yet, but I had found him a good home, and told his new owner to
wait about 2 months before neutering him.  I also told the owner that I would pick up the cat, and take him to be neutered when he is ready.  I kept in touch with them, and then called them to make arrangements.  They lived in Queens, so when the time came, I picked Petey up, and took him to be neutered at a veterinarian in Brooklyn.  Then, later that day, Petey’s new owners met me half way to take him back home with them.  Petey is happy, growing and doing very well in his new home.

 ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello Again,

I would like to start off this month by wishing all of our readers a HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY, and a HAPPY PURIM.  Remember that Daylight Savings begins on March 10th, so don’t forget to fix your clocks.

Now I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in recently.

SNOOPY –
I received a phone call from someone that I know, who knows that I do animal work, telling me that his friend, has a stray dog that someone gave him a while ago.  He said that his friend’s dog has a swollen eye, and the owner, who gave the stray a home, is extremely poor and can’t afford to take the dog to a vet.  He asked if I could help.  I called Save Our Strays, explained the situation and they made an appointment for the next day at a veterinary clinic.  The owner lives in Manhattan, in a free hotel, and he called me that morning and said that he would take the train to Brooklyn, to get to the veterinarian.  The veterinarian told them that the dog had an abscess in his mouth, and that it was so bad that it spread to his eye.  The owner had to come back to the veterinarian the next as the dog needed immediate surgery.  Save Our Strays gave approval for the surgery.  The operation was a success, and he was able to bring the dog home.  The owner was so grateful that he kept sending me pictures of the dog’s progress after surgery.  He said thank G-d for Save Our Strays, and you for saving my dog’s life.  (It was a good thing that the dog was small, and could be carried on the subway.)

CHOWDER & CALI –
These two kittens, one orange and one Tuxedo, were found outside looking for food.  I received a call from someone that knows that I do animal work, and she asked what she should do.  I contacted a friend of mine, who is a rescuer and the next morning she went to pick up the kittens and took them to a veterinarian to be checked, spayed, neutered etc.  When they were ready, she was able to find a home that took both of them.  Three months later, the rescuer got a phone call from the woman who took the kittens saying that she no longer wanted them.  The rescuer went to get them, and brought them to her house.  She put them in a cage together, and we advertised for a foster home for them.  After a week, we found a fosterer that took them both, and they have been there for about a week and a half, until we can find a forever home for Chowder and Cali.  Meanwhile, they are safe.

SIMA –
I found Sima in Brighton, at one of my feeding spots.  I trapped her immediately, and brought her to my house and put her in a cage to socialize her a bit.  The next day, I brought her to the veterinarian to be checked etc., and then took her back to my house.  She has been with me for a month, and has calmed down.  I got in touch with another rescuer, who helps me all the time, and she advertised for a home for Sima.  Sima now has a forever home, and is fine, healthy and adapting to her new home very well.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our readers.  Remember that this is the month of Love, so let’s all make it a priority to be kind to each other, and those less fortunate than we are.

On another note, I would like to tell you about some rescues that I have been involved in lately.

FIFI –
Let me tell you about Fifi.  She is a black, and white cat, who appeared out of nowhere at one of my feeding spots looking straggly.  She appeared to be about 6 months old.  Thank G-d she found one of my good spots.  I have shelters here also, so I decided that it would be a good place to returned her to, after she was taken care of.  I trapped her, built her up, and when she was ready, with the help of Save Our Strays, I had her checked out, spayed and given whatever else she needed.  I waited a couple of weeks, then when she was ready, she was happy to be put back in a place that was familiar to her, and where she would be comfortable.  Fifi is doing well.  She is a bit timid, but well.

MANGO –
I don’t know where all these cats are coming from with all the TNR going on, but it is worse than ever.  Anyway, while going to another one of my feeding spots, I saw a striped orange male cat looking for food.  I showed him where the feeding spot was, since he was right near it, and he gobbled up a lot of the food that was there.  I knew that he was going to stay there, but of course, he had to be checked out and neutered first.  He must have been dumped because he wasn’t too feral.  I trapped him, and with the help of Save Our Strays, had everything that he needed done.  He is fine, and hanging out with the other felines.  Mango seems to know the area.

HAROLD –
Let me tell you about Harold.  He was about 5 weeks old.  He was found in a pack of bushes around 6 p.m., by someone going to the store.  I received a phone call from someone saying that they had just found a little tiny Tuxedo kitten.  I went, and picked him up, and got formula because he would not eat food, and we thought he was younger than he turned out to be.  He made it through the night, and in the morning, we brought him to the veterinarian to be checked.  One of the fosterers fell in love with Harold, because he is so studious looking.  Harold cannot be neutered until February, but he is happy and has a home, thank G-d.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

January – a new year.  As you get older, time flies faster.  I would like to start off this month by wishing all of our friends, and members a Happy, and Healthy New Year.  Winter is now in full swing, and I hope that everyone has their shelters up, and working for the strays, to keep them protected from the elements.  Please remember to stock them with dry food, and water.

On another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately.

CLIFFY –
Someone had informed me about a white, and orange cat that had been thrown out.  We searched for days looking for Cliffy with no luck, but we left food all over the area because the cats usually stay within a two block area.  They are not wanderers like dogs.  With perseverance, we finally spotted Cliffy hiding between two buildings.  With a little coaxing, to our surprise, he let us pick him up.  He was so friendly, and relieved to find comfort.  Cliffy has been neutered, given shots, is in great health and is in the process of finding a forever home.

BUBBLES –
You can obviously tell by the name Bubbles, that this cat is a joy to be around.  She is all ginger, and full of joy after being found in Gravesend with her brother.  We found a lovely family to adopt Bubbles.  She is four months old, and we will be spaying her this week.  Bubbles will be going to her forever home next week.  The people are so concerned that they have been calling to see how Bubbles is doing, before she goes to them next week.  Please, if you see something, please do something.  We are the only hope that the strays have.  Thank you.  (We are still looking for a forever home for her brother.  We will find it.)

SENIA –
Senia is a nice Siamese cat.  She is friendly, and was found with two beautiful kittens in a horrible, filthy spot behind a dilapidated building in Coney Island.  A homeless man saw me, and told me about Senia.  I called another rescuer from Save Our Strays to help me, and after a few days, we finally trapped Senia and her babies.  She was leery because she obviously had come from a home, and had been
abandoned.  I would be leery also.  When we got her, this beautiful, nice, Siamese mix, was so underweight, but with the doctor’s help, and many cans of food, she is now in a healthy state.  Her 2 kittens were adopted.  I am sure that Senia will find the home that she deserves.

ROBBIN’S NEST

Hello again.

The Holidays are here, and I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a Joyous Holiday Season.  May you, and your families have joy, and happiness.

The cold weather is upon us, and I hope that you all have your shelters ready to protect the strays from the elements.  As always, we are their guardians.  I can’t say this often enough.

Now, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in lately.

CHOWDER & CALEIGH –
One day, I received a phone call from a woman telling me that, as she was walking into her apartment building, she saw 2 kittens – no more than 4 month old – huddling together.  I told her to bring them to me, since she said that they were friendly.  Obviously, they had been dumped there.  The woman was very uneasy about touching them, because they had fleas.  I told her to wear gloves, and put the kittens into a box.  I then called Save Our Strays, and they made an appointment for us to bring them to a
veterinarian the next morning to have everything done.  They were de-wormed, defleaed,
given shots, spayed and neutered.  One was a Tuxedo cat, and the other an Orange Tabby.  The woman immediately put an ad on Instagram, and thank G-d, we got someone to adopt both of them after they had been checked out.  A couple of days later, the woman who adopted them picked them up.  Now, Chowder, and Caleigh are together in a forever home.

KATRINA –
I had a bad circumstance with a drug addict, who wanted to sell his cat for $105.  The cat looked petrified, and seemed uncomfortable.  I bought the cat, along with another rescuer, to get her away from this man, who did not have the cat’s best interest at heart.  We took the cat home, and discovered that it had no control over it’s urine and it was hiding.  The next day, we rushed her to a veterinarian.  Poor Katrina had a really bad bladder infection.  She was treated, and we have a temporary foster home for her.  When she is better, Katrina, an all orange, female cat, will then be spayed and we will look for a forever home for her.  Meanwhile, she is safe and not suffering anymore.

RUBY -
This has been a week for orange cats.  Ruby was found wandering by a building in Staten Island.  We put up posters because he was so friendly, but no one responded.  He was unkempt, and underweight.  We took him to be neutered, and checked out and cleaned up.  He is being cared for by a friend of mine, until we can find him a forever home.  He is safe, happy and putting on weight.  The more I deal with people, them more I love animals.  They are dependent on us.  Be kind.  Thank you.
