ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again. June is here, and I would like to start off this month, by wishing all fathers, both human and animal, a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. Now that the warmer weather is finally here, it is more important than ever to be aware of the strays out there. In the summer it is just as hard for them to find food, and especially water as it doesn’t rain as much this time of year. Food that is thrown out, and put in the garbage is not always an option, since the heat spoils the food. Although the warmer weather is a welcome break for all of us, the strays always need our help. Now I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in recently. TONY – I received a call from a friend of mine, telling me that she had found dog in Coney Island. The dog was a Maltipoo Mix. I drove over to check out the situation, and the dog had a ordor coming from its mouth, as if there was an infection. We brought the dog to one of our veterinarians the next day to be checked, and treated. When we picked the dog up the next day, we found that 6 of his teeth had been extracted. We took the dog home with all the necessary medication, and my friend decided to keep Tony. Tony now has a forever home, and will be okay. ANNABELLE – Annabelle is a Calico, female cat that, someone had told me, was not being treated properly. She is about 6 months old. The people who had previously owned her lived in a basement apartment, and keep taking cats in. They neglected them and the animals eventually end up on the street. The other cats that these people had were males, but they ended up at my feeding spot, so everything turned out okay. I went with a friend of mine to get Annabelle. The cat was very friendly, and I told her owners that I would be back in an hour to get her. When I went back, I found that the cat had escaped out the window, and I couldn’t find her. I told the owners that they had better find Annabelle, or I would be back with the police and that they had better not take in any more animals. I gave them my number, and the called me late that night, saying that they had found the cat, and I told them that I would come and get her. I got Annabelle, and brought her to my friend. We had her spayed, and my friend eventually found her a forever home. So, Annabelle is happy and doing fine. TEDDY – I got a phone call from someone in the projects, saying that their neighbor was going to put their cat out in the street, because they didn’t want it anymore. The cat is a 1½ year old Tuxedo cat. I went to the projects to pick up the cat. The girl who called me, was holding the cat until I got there. He is now in my house, and I will be taking him to one of our veterinarians to be checked, neutered etc., and then, when he is ready, I will look for a good home for him. I will keep you updated next month.
