STEDE BONNETT’S STORY
Stede Bonnett, a middle-aged brown and white Tabby boy from a managed colony, was showing signs of his age recently.  His coat was looking rough, he had lost some weight and has a very swollen bottom lip.  He is a fairly friendly
community cat, and was easily coaxed into a large carrier with some canned tuna.

Once at the vet hospital, he was a little more difficult to coax, but with slow moving patience, an exam was completed.  He had some mouth irritation and gingivitis, needed a good coat stripping and a needle biopsy was attempted on the lip mass.  Results were inconclusive, so a date was set for a dentistry, and mass removal, with all pre-op labs to be run prior to anesthesia and surgery.

A long-acting antibiotic and anti-inflammatory were administered via injection, and Stede was sent to a rescue partner in the interim.  While being monitored, and getting extra care and good groceries, it was noted that the lip mass increased in size and Stede was looking a little frail.  Decision was made to run the labs immediately instead of waiting till surgery day.

A full chemistry, complete blood count, thyroid and heartworm tests were sent to the lab.  Results came back with no big, red flags, but, lots of inflammation.
Stede is set to have his dental workup, and cleaning done on May 16th, along with the lip mass removal and repair.  He will have a heart enzyme test done right before to make sure that there are no heart issues prior to anesthesia.  He remains indoors at our rescue partner, and has decided that the indoor life is now for him. He spends his days in warm beds, in sun puddles and begging for canned food.

Hoping that his surgery is successful, his recovery is uneventful and his life continues content and stress free.

Save Our Strays is committed to every cat in our care, from neo-natal kittens to adoptable cats being campaigned for forever homes, to supported colony and community cats.  Every Paw Matters.
