SOUTH CAROLINA RESCUE BERTA’S STORY Imagine having a home, and then, losing it. Imagine trying to survive out there on your own, when you once had a family, food, fresh water and a warm bed. Imagine being injured so badly, that the lenses of your eyes rupture and your world slowly gets smaller and smaller as your sight fades. Survival now becomes impossible, from difficult. Berta was found struggling in the road, thin to the point of emaciation and badly dehydrated. Both eyes were painfully ruptured, and she was completely sightless. Some traumatic injury, a car collision perhaps, destroyed both eyes, leaving her in pain and unable to hunt or even beg for food. She was brought, by a good Samaritan, to the local Animal Control, where it was discovered how sweet a little soul she was. Considering the level of pain she was in, the staff would have totally understood fractiousness and distrust on her part. Berta exhibited nothing but trust and soft purrs for everyone. Once she was started on pain medications, antibiotics, and given good food to build her little abused body back to strength, the decision was made to surgically remove both of her tortured eyes and give her a solid, pain-free new chance at happiness. Berta is fully recovered, fully vetted, and is the sweetest girl in foster care with our organization, and interviewing for her forever after family. Save Our Strays works with Little Feet Haven, a 501(c)3 organization. Save Our Strays pays the medical bills, and Little Feet Haven fosters, and finds forever homes for the Strays. They are wonderful partners.
