SOUTH CAROLINA RESCUE
The Little Traveler Winter, in the South, can be very unpredictable. All four seasons, in one day, can be more common than not. Although “kitten season” may slow down some, it never sleeps in the South. This day, although in the upper 60’s in the afternoon, temps would fall to 27 during the night. A volunteer, acting upon a plea for help for four 12–16-week-old kittens discovered living under the porch of an abandoned home, came out armed with traps and delicious bait. Upon successfully trapping these older babies, and loading them for transport to an agreed-on foster, the volunteer heard a cry for help. The sound of a baby in trouble, a much younger baby. Once securing the older babies, the search was on for the distress call. One tiny, emaciated, cold and tired 4-week-old baby boy, hiding under a pile of sticks and leaves, was discovered. No mom, no siblings. He was scooped up, and a plea went out for a fosterer with experience in fragile, underfed kittens with sub-normal temps. Little Feet Haven/Save Our Strays working partnership had a foster mom, through Little Feet Haven. Arrangements were made on the fly for this baby to land safely. Little “Traveler” was pulled into a warm nest, given a stuffed toy with a heartbeat to snuggle against, and once his temp was brought up to normal ranges, a warm meal of canned kitten food mixed with formula was offered. This was accepted enthusiastically! Traveler spent 2 weeks with his first foster mom, and was then tested for feline aids and leukemia (both negative!), given his first vaccine and then placed with a litter of three bottle babies the same age staying with one of our fosters. He had a family again. All four babies will finish their vetting and then be presented for adoption. They will be taking applications, and interviewing for their forever families. ***Until They All Find Homes***
