Kenna’s Story - South Carolina Rescuse August 2026

As our readers know, we do partner frequently with other local rescues, and are firm

believers that rescues should always help each other when able, and link hands under those who are struggling. The struggle is real.

One associate recently spear-headed a huge trap/neuter/recover/release initiative,

which resulted in 87 cats being altered in one sitting! An amazing endeavor. 87 cats will

now live their feral lives, without contributing to the population. Young weaned kittens were slipped into foster homes for socialization.

One such kitten, Kenna, had gotten herself into a bit of a jam. She was stuck in a car

engine compartment, and managed to deglove her little tail. Leaving a raw and infected

wound. She was anesthetized for a tail amputation, and the vet opted to go ahead with her spay, as she met the weight requirement.

A plea was sent out by the rescue who organized the TNRR event, for a medical foster

and ongoing rescue placement to adoption. Kenna had 10 days of antibiotics, followed by needed vaccines. We welcomed her in, knowing that we had a litter of kittens of like age in foster, and could give her a family again.

Unfortunately, Kenna tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), and

would not be eligible to transition into a litter of negative kittens just yet. The good news is that this positive result is almost certainly only maternal antibodies showing up, and she will test negative within the next few months.

If she does remain persistently positive, she will still be adoptable. FIV cannot be

transmitted casually, only by breeding activity or deep bite wounds. As a spayed girl, there will be no breeding, and likely no serious fighting. So, Kenna wins regardless.

Kenna has had 2 sets of vaccines completed so far, and is scheduled for re-test in about

3 weeks. She is growing, and doing very well in foster.

No one rescue can save the world, but successful partnerships can mean the world to
