FLORIDA RESCUE RANGER

As we move forward into the year 2026, I find myself reflecting on a rescue on Christmas of 2026.

The smell of rotting leftovers, and the damp of a Florida December shouldn’t be the first memory of a kitten‘s Christmas, but for one little Family, the dumpster behind a local Burger King/Wawa gas station was the only home they knew.  Mama, a surprisingly, gentle soul despite her circumstances.  She did her best to keep her four eight week old kittens tucked away from the world, but kittens are curious and on Christmas Eve 2025, curiosity nearly turned into tragedy.

This was the beginning of the Christmas Eve crisis.  While the rest of the world was wrapping gifts, a volunteer from Save Our Strays known as the Florida rescue Ranger, was out on a late night patrol.  She spotted mama pacing frantically next to a steel commercial dumpster.  Three kittens were seen huddled nearby, when a tiny muffled cry was echoing out of this big steel commercial dumpster.  One of the babies had managed to climb a tree that was next to this big steel commercial dumpster, and had fallen in and was crying for help.  The Florida rescue Ranger did everything she could to reach this little baby, but she knew it was just too much for her to handle.  As the clock tickled past midnight, and into Christmas morning, she made a call to the local fire

department.  While most families were waking up to see what was under the Christmas tree, the fire department was working under the glow of heavy-duty flashlights.  With Care, the firefighter lifted himself up and over into the dumpster, carefully picking up the little kitten on Christmas morning.  It was as if the first present of the day was not a toy, but a life saved.  Mama cat, and four kittens made it out of there, and into a foster home where the Florida rescue Ranger can assess the situation.  Now it is time for mama to be spayed, and get the medical attention that she needs to go up for adoption for her forever home.  After rolling around in the dirt, and living next to a dumpster, mama cat and her kittens can now relax on a nice comfy couch and await their new future.  The best way to thank Save Our Strays, and the Florida rescue Ranger is not with words, but it is with an empty kennel and a full heart, and a donation so we can continue to rescue poor animals in horrific situations.  Thank you for your support as always.
