ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again.
I would like to begin by wishing all of our readers a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. November is here, and the cooler weather has started. If you haven’t set up your shelters for the strays, to prepare for the cooler months ahead, now is the time. We must always remember that “we are their guardians.”
On another note, I would like to tell you about more of the rescues that we have been involved in lately.
VANESSA –
One day, while I was near the Boardwalk, I spotted a kitten about 3 months old. I ran to my car to get food, and a trap. I set the trap with food in it. The kitten was hesitant, but she went into the trap. I took her to the one of our veterinarians the next day to be checked out, de-wormed, given shots etc. The veterinarian said they she was okay, and I gave her to a fosterer, who took her home where she will be cared for, and socialized. Since then, Vanessa has become very social, and we found her forever home. When she is old enough, I will take her to be spayed.
HARRY –
I found Harry hiding in a street corner in Coney Island. The cat was frightened, and would not move. People told me that he had been there for hours, and would not move. I went over, got him and put him in a carrier. I took him to my home, and put him in a cage with food etc. I kept him in my house, and cared for him until he became relaxed, and began to soften up. A week later, I took him to one of our veterinarians to be checked out, treated and neutred. Harry is about a year old, and has become very playful and loving in the crate. I then realized that it was time to try to find him a forever home. A rescuer friend of mine took pictures of him, and placed an ad to try to get him adopted. A nice young couple who was looking for a kitten, responded, and when they saw Harry, they fell in love with him and adopted him. Harry is now in a nice, loving home, and doing fine.
JOSIE & HELEN –
Josie, and Helen were two black cats that were trapped in one of the projects in Coney Island. My rescuer friend, and I trapped them, but were concerned about finding them a home because of the stigma that many people have about black cats. My rescuer friend, fostered them for a while, and then received a phone call from someone who had adopted a cat from her years ago, which was also black, and they wanted to adopt another one. We told them about Josie, and Helen and they decided to adopt both of them. Josie, and Helen now have a loving, forever home and they are doing fine.
