ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello Again,
April is here, and, spring is upon us. It has been a hard winter. I am glad that it is behind us, and I am sure that the strays agree. We can finally enjoy better weather. I would like to wish all our friends, and members a HAPPY EASTER, and a HAPPY PASSOVER. Also, a reminder that this month is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month. So, as I have said before, if you see an animal that looks as though it has been mistreated, don’t ignore it, do something about it. Both you, and the animal (or animals) in question will be glad that you did.
Now on another note, I would like to tell you about some of the rescues Save Our Strays, and I have been involved in lately.
JOANNA –
A few months ago, we met a woman who was feeding a momma cat, and 2 kittens, 1 male, and 1 female, at the Boardwalk. They needed to be spayed, checked out, etc. So my rescuer friend, and I decided to help her. We had to trap them, because they were all feral. It took a while, but we got them. After we had them completely vetted, and when they were ready, we put the mother cat and the male kitten back where we found them, as they could not be socialized. The female kitten, who we named Joanna, was easily socialized and turned out to be a wonderful cat. About 2 months later, we were able to find a home for her and she is doing fine. Thank you Save Our Strays, for their veterinary care.
ANNA & ROCKY –
During the snow storm that we had about four weeks ago, I got a phone call from a woman that I know, who lives in the projects. She told me that she was walking up the stairs in her building, and saw a carrier with 2 kittens, about 2½ months old, in it. My rescuer friend went there to check it out, Rocky, the male was a marble Tabby, the other kitten, who we named Anna was a Calico – she was very tiny compared to Rocky. We took the kittens, and had everythting that was necessary done for them. Prior to our rescue of these 2 kittens , my rescuer friend received a phone call from a woman that she knows, who said that she wanted to adopt a cat. The woman came to see Rocky, and Anna, and adopted Rocky. Rocky is happy, and is doing fine, but Anna is a different story. After a few days, Anna seemed to be having a problem, so we took her to the veterinarian. The doctor gave her a convenience shot, and a liquid antibiotic, along with an appetite builder and a B12 shot. We took her home, but 2 days later we brought her back to the veterinarian to be checked, and he gave her another medication. We took her home, and all of a sudden, after a few days, she began to improve, and even put on some weight. She was doing beautifully, and about a week after that a woman called my rescuer friend, saying that her cat had passed away recently, and she wanted to adopt another cat. She came, and saw Anna and feel in love with her yesterday (March 16th), and will pick her up on Saturday (March 21st) to take her to her new home. G-d works in wonderful ways.
SUNSHINE –
There is a colony of cats in Coney Island that I feed, and most of them are semi-feral. There is a man who lives on that block, who checks on them to see if they are okay, and let’s me know. One of the cats, came up to him, and let him pet him. So, the man took him home, and Sunshine now has a forever home and is doing fine with her new owner. A happy ending.
