ROBBIN’S NEST
Hello again.
June is here, and I would like to start off this month, by wishing all fathers, both human and animal, a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. Now that the warmer weather is finally here, it is more important than ever to be aware of the strays out there. In the summer it is just as hard for them to find food, and especially water as it doesn’t rain as much this time of year. Food that is thrown out, and put in the garbage is not always an option, since the heat spoils the food. Although the warmer weather is a welcome break for all of us, the strays always need our help.
Now I would like to tell you about some of the rescues that I have been involved in recently.
VERA –
Vera was living under the Boardwalk, and we trapped her and her two kittens. The kittens, had to be socialized so we worked with them, and in a short time they became completely socialized, and they were adopted. Vera, the mother cat was not sociable, so we took her to one of our veterinarians to be checked, spayed etc. When she was healed we put her at my spot, where she will continue to be fed every day.
BRIDGET –
Bridget was living in a Bodega that was not in very good condition. She also had 4 kittens. I spoke to the owner, and asked him if I could take Bridget to a veterinarian to be checked, spayed etc. At first he would not allow it, but with a lot of persuading, he finally agreed to do so, as long as I brought her back to him afterwards. Even though the Bodega was not the best of surroundings for her, in his own way he did care for her. So, after she finished nursing her kittens, we took her to be spayed etc. My fosterer friend held Bridget to give her time to heal. When she was ready, I returned her to the Bodega. We still have the kittens, and they are being vetted, and will eventually be found homes. Meanwhile, they are safe.
HARRY –
One day, I was feeding an all grey cat at one of my spots. I have been feeding him there for a while now, and he is very timid, but always stays there. One of the people who lives there, a woman, befriended Harry, and one day he followed her into her apartment and she decided to keep him. We took him to one of our veterinarians to have him checked, and given whatever he needed, and he turned out to be fine, and healthy. A happy ending for Harry.
